As a guy- I sincerely don’t understand why you can’t just be straight upfront about splitting it. One of my favorite tactics on a date is to see if the girl will offer to split. That little gesture says a lot to me. I usually respond with, “I got this one, pick up the next one” if I want to go on a second date. If not, I say “sure- let’s split”. Yeah I’m a little bit of an operator I guess…

like

D1 just say to split when the check arrives and be upfront about it. P2 nailed it.

That’s really weird and a bigger sign of insecurity around money. You work for it to also enjoy it on dates. As a guy (41) I remember always knowing that if I couldn’t afford to take care of EVERYTHING on a date night, I had no business being out. Always feel weird when the girl tries to pay for anything. I try to get it taken care of so they don’t even have a chance. 🙂

The guy sounds like he has a real chip on his shoulder. Minimal investment of time on your part, so chalk it up to life's experiences.

like

Ikr?! It felt like he was mad at women in general. What a terrible, terrible experience.

like

Ugh, that guy has ISSUES! Like, complicated ones!😂 I went on a date yesterday with someone who makes around seven figures (compared to my low six)… he ordered for both of us (it was tapas) and ran up quite a tab, then gave in right away when I obligatorily offered to split the bill. I don’t know whether or not it’s fair for me to be annoyed, but I am, just a little!

IBA, he’s an energy finance executive.

How was the rest of the conversation? Was it all about money, gender roles, and general cheapness?

I’ve given up on dating, and I was only one date in after avoiding men for all of this year 😂

Maybe you were on a reality show, sounds like a comical portrayal of chivalry. Regardless of gender roles/expectations in society, it’s just nice to pick up the check, regardless of who does it.

Thank god - literally block him

Was he magical before the date, over text? I’m cringing so hard.

Sigh. Onto bigger and better things! At least it makes for a good story 🤣

My ex and I had an agreement, whenever we went out, I would ask for the check, if the waited/waitress gave it to him regardless, then he would have to pay. Sadly, it worked in my favor most of the times 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Just moved to NYC and I noticed here that the nice restaurants would get it 9 out of 10 and give me the check. The one time one restaurant didn’t, it was put in the middle of the table.

I once went on a date where the guy got so drunk I had to walk him home

LOL someone I used to work with was in this situation but he was the guy

Awww, thank you IA1! ♥️

I would’ve personally left when the comments about paying kept coming up, so classless. Nothing wrong with women paying but I personally prefer men with chivalry.

Idk if I’m stupid or whether I was downplaying the glaring red flags, but I honestly thought it was just in jest. Ugh, still cringing lol.

Dating is hard

Is it bad that if I (a woman) go on a date with a guy and if it’s going bad, I never offer to split? Like the least he can do is cover my tab if it was a bad experience and I’m probably not gonna see him again. However, if I’m really interested in the guy, I’ll always ask to split or how much I can pay.

like

I used to do the same. If the guy wouldn’t shut up, I ran up the bill until he did. Record is $1200

Should have left

Awww, A2! I sure hope he is around the corner. I’m going to enjoy the ride until then 😂

And there were no signs he was like this before the date?

Nope, I instantly regretted meeting him about 20 minutes into the date. I was blindsided.
