Remember this enthusiasm. Put it in a jar and label it accordingly. When the clock strikes two am, and you're in a holiday inn express hotel in a small town in Michigan. Your heater doesn't work and it's a chilly 48 degrees in your room, you're doing slides, your senior shit the bed and has no real idea what he's doing, so you're doing it, he's sleeping, you're working. Next morning (in four hours) you send the slides to your senior for review and then he sends them to the manager, but he weirdly didn't CC you. You roll into the client site, frayed and in shock from your all nighter, cold and hungry, but proud of what you accomplished. The meeting starts and the manger says, actually, let's let the owner of these slides lead this meeting. You get a shot of adrenaline, you're excited, you roll your shoulders back, and open your mouth, then your senior says, thank you <manager>, I'd be happy to. Panic sets in, you grip the pen tightly, knuckles are white. Don't stab the senior, instead, find your jar, you remember the jar don't you? Find it. Open it a fraction, and huff, smell that sweet fragrance of joy and excitement. Welcome friend
This post is sooo cute
@ey1 should have been a writer
@EY1 you have some talent my friend. We want more.
Wow @EY1 that was beautiful. Tell me more.
Welcome! Don't let the negativity of Fishbowl deter you from this career. Lots of people use this as an outlet to vent, otherwise we'd get fired if we vented to bosses/clients. There's nothing that you can learn ahead of time that would really give you an edge, I would just enjoy the next month off. Also do good work as soon as you start, first impressions matter.
Enjoy the 20% bump in your paycheck
Are you guys for real?! MANAGEMENT CONSULTING world...
^when you send your deck to the senior, cc manner as well. If not senior and sending it to manager, cc Sr manager. Don't address them in the email or ask them to review just cc. Senior or manager will think twice about taking all the credit. Will at least share the credit.
Stop using "u" instead of "you". I'd roll you off my project in a heartbeat.
Agreed but given the context of fishbowl one can make the assumption of what MC stands for...
Be prepared for a long time on the bench. MC CIPS is struggling. Laying off a lot of second years.
Keep your resume updated, no end in sight to layoffs
What is MC world?
Excel analysis and PowerPoint. Buy 6 suits. 15 dress shirts. 3 nice pairs of shoes.
What is the professional way to handle people who steal your credit as EY1 described? How do you tactfully say something in the meeting or afterwards?
I'd just confront him gently and see how he reacts. If the senior is anything less than apologetic for stealing your work, tell him you'll be going to your coach/counselor with the issue and do that. Unless you're close to the manager or the partner on the project, go ahead and schedule a meeting and tell them what happened
PwC 2...for reals lots of layoffs in Mc cips? How do people hear about these things ? And how does one know it's true or rumors ? Would appreciate the insight !
The best lies are the truth. I'm glad you enjoyed it 🐟 fam.
@PWc3, i'm in so-called MC, and never use that term. In fact I thought this was a Management Consultant forum when I joined, until I saw a bunch of post from testers and developers.
