Offtopic: My dad has been in same organization since last 35years + . He is soon going to retire next year. He has started behaving like there will be nothing pleasure left once he gets retired. He is behaving differently. He gets angry if we buy any clothes or gifts for him (he says I am going to retire what will I do of the new shirt). How to convince him there is 2nd innings waiting for him. Any tips /advices are appreciated

My father retired last year. He served for 35+ years as well. So he was sad as well initially. Take him out to different places, religious places which he has not seen like Golden Temple, Mount Abu's Jain Temple, Meenakshi Temple, if he is into that. Do not force him to get a job. Just let him explore his own space at his own pace.

Give him some time. It will be difficult for him initially to settle in with this thought but gradually he will understand

he is feeling like you are now going to feed him like a kid and he is not used to it . He has been the one staying with you in all ups and downs of you since you were born. give him some time , he is your dad , he will understand

Tell him you understand that this retirement is making him sad and let him out the emotions.
You can't convince someone to have a different feeling than what they actually have.
In different time, you can ask him what's his plan and just let him know that you are their to support him for whatever his plan his and just keep that communication open. He will come back when he is ready.

As the job market recovers and tech talent becomes especially sought-after, some job seekers can be at a crossroads.

Fledgling startup or a big, established company: where would you work?

Working at a startup helps you pick up new cross-functional skills, forces you to dig deeper into your reserves, and allows leadership opportunities.

Big companies typically have a more structured path for career growth, offer benefits and perks to employees, and are perceived as more stable.

I’m really happy being gf&bf with my significant other - I’m 41 and I don’t want kids and I am not desperately seeking marriage. I’m really happy with just this & my job. I think it weirds his immigrant family out a lot. His mother apparently was very cold/rude to his ex-gf (I found this out bc I asked) and his sister is very cold and has a very judgmental attitude about women that don’t wanna be a wife & have kids (just like her.) I wanna avoid holidays at their place - any advice?
