Wow. I’m shocked by these responses. We are a PBIS school and I couldn’t imagine it any other way. It is highly successful for kids for teachers, parents and admin within our entire district. We paired it with collaborative problem solving. Take a look at work by Dr. Becky Bailey and Dr. Ross Green...
What are we the goal? Make developmentally appropriate goals. Use a assessment method that focuses on those specific goals then focus on that building/ scaffolding. It can be small group whole group or one on one.
I work at a PBIS school. I.love it. You do have to have the award system in place.
This is a nationwide problem. PBIS, like all things, only works if done effectively and correctly. With that being said, I’m right there with you. My school hates it and it isn’t working. Schools seem to say they are PBIS, but don’t provide training for the teachers or ample time to plan and implement it.
We try and it doesn’t work. Students have behavior issues and they know they will only have some circle to sit thru and there are no consequences to their actions. You have to be ALL IN for it to work and frankly in my opinion I have other things that take priority than taking the enormous time it takes to get this rolling
