Ok I’m a new analyst. I was assigned something to get done today with a consultant. I did a majority of the technical stuff and was scrambling to get stuff fine today. He was slow in responding to my pings all day, had me maneuvering to different people and signed off at like 4. I tried to do finish it on my own tonight but I couldn’t. I don’t think it’s ultimately a big deal since it’s not for the client but if my manager says anything, what should I say?

If your manager asks, let them know you finished your portion and waiting on the other person to finish up their items and that you followed up with them previously but will touch base to see where they are shortly.

Don’t listen to P1 hahah
Never a good idea to snitch on anyone in consulting. Relations are everything doesn’t matter if it’s internal or client.

Awwww...
I guess You are new to D. ‘Coz here in the firm people like talking behind people’s backs!!

You should snitch on that POS consultant. Tell him to “come see bout us”.

Well the Most annoying thing is it sidetracked me on other stuff and I could have saved time if I actually got answers

High chances are the manager will ask the consultant and not you because that’s how most part of delegation works

However don’t bitch out on the C, you don’t know what else he/she must be occupied with. You can be honest on everything that you’ve worked on; that you’re still working on it and finally just need some review with the C and you’ll be ready by XX time.

adding on to D1 - if this is a consistent problem, create a paper trail through email or screenshot ping convos with timestamps so you can back up your claim if necessary (hopefully it doesn’t come to that)

If it’s not for the client, that’s why the consultant wasn’t giving you a lot of attention. In the future, if you’re not able to continue and the person won’t respond to your request for help, just send an email with your latest version, your question and that you’re unable to continue until you get some help. Done.

For reference, remember that the consultant will be looking to get promoted to manager in the near future. As part of that, they need to demonstrate they can successfully manage people exactly like you. Perhaps the consultant was correctly prioritizing work on a client deliverable with someone else, and did not have time for you. That’s okay. But if this is consistent behavior from the consultant, and you’re getting burned from their lack of leadership and assistance, then you have some ammo for how to get them in your corner.
