Ok, I’m feeling a bit defeated with the job hunt so coming here… how does one actually land an interview within FAANG?? I actually think my experience is applicable and my friends in FAANG always say how good of a fit I would be but for the love of God I can’t get past the resume screen. Can anyone who’s done this successfully provide advice?

I got 2 interviews from google within the past 2 months without referral. It’s all about the resume. Always quantify wins and include key words.

Good luck!

Also, why FAANG in particular… it seems like you’re just applying for prestige and maybe haven’t even considered why you want to work at these places and it’s coming across as such in your application. There are a ton of other companies that could also provide great exits and opportunities, and could even be better suited to your skills and what you have on your resume.

like

I’m not only applying to FAANG, that’s just where I’m seeing the hardest challenge getting past screens. I really like the culture fit of Google and specifically am targeting there but am also applying other places- just haven’t had issues with those :)

like

1. Have relevant skills 2. Present relevant skills in an easy to consume/evaluate way 3. Get referred by existing employees (optional) Despite what your friends say, I suspect that the issue is most likely #1. However, it could also be #2 (but that is less likely given how standardized the process is right now).

like

What would you consider relevant skills for Product Mgmt? If I’m apply to be a PM and have been working in a PM capacity for years leading multiple software development teams, not sure what else I’m missing other than maybe tech certs

like

I got interviews with all FAANG except Netflix and weirdly Amazon. Post your resume (anonymized).

like

Maybe look for product adjacent roles to get into FAANG then go from there. Product isn’t the only lucrative role. Look into project management, program management, business intelligence, sales engineering, solutions architect, etc. I know you get land something!

likehelpful

Yeah I’ve heard this as well. The concern is I’m more interested in product work but to your point there are other things I could enjoy and won’t know unless I try

Your resume might not be great

like

Absolutely, that’s my master plan, there are so many great roles that can transition you into PM

Referrals help and YOE is also a big deal. If you're less than 2 YOE, it's harder. the more relevant YOE you have, the easier it is to get an interview. but getting past the interview process though is another question

like

Thanks! Yeah, I have 5 YOE which is on par with the roles I’m applying to. Have you found better luck applying to roles with less YOE than you have? Seems counterintuitive but not sure if that helps

Luck. Seriously, please remember so much of this is sheer luck and be easy on yourself

I think above all, it’s waiting the right role to come up and then apply, if senior in career

Hi fishies! I’m currently working in Financial services as a PM ( one year full time experience) and I want to shift my career to go to high tech companies (FAANG) as my goal. With the experience I have, sadly I wasn’t able to get an interview from FAANG. I’ve now got an offer from Accenture working on digital transformation as a PM/PO do you think moving to Accenture would be a good choice and it’ll get me closer to get into FAANG?

Trying to figure out best way to allocate preparation time. Many thanks 🙏🏻
