Ok need actual advice and not a hard time please .... Would you go from Big4 back to second tier? Struggle is real, the role sounds interesting but I can't wrap my head around taking that step back.

No way. Same hours (if not worse) hours, potentially smaller pay raises, and you lose the big 4 name

It's a gamble, if the small firm gets you to the top level in less time than it makes sense

Thanks you guys, appreciate your thoughts and that you didn't pounce on me. 👍

One of my friends did it and is loving it. The hours are nowhere near the same at the smaller firms and the pay isn't that different. Exit opportunities are a little more limited, but you already have big 4 on your resume so that shouldn't be a problem

Unless you get your last name on the building for a small firm it's not worth it

Move from big 4 to another public doesn't make sense. If it's better exit opportunity and has a work life balance, then it makes sense

Big NO- if you want to make the move, then do industry. Better hours, pay and promotions.

If anyone was wondering I didn't do it; working on an office transfer as we speak !

Never

Someone in our group did it. Hours are almost same, pay and raises a bit less, perks/benefits not even close. Plus no more big 4 name. She did it because she didn't get along with her team. But I would rather switch teams then.

Don't. Just don't.

No. Don't.

I went to a state school. A few years ago when I was in the final round interview with McKinsey, one of the interviewers who graduated from Harvard made me repeat my state school name three times during my self intro, claiming he didn’t get it. He had my resume right in front of him. I still occasionally think about this.
