Ok so need an opinion. 98%of me wants to stay at my current position as a resource room teacher. 2% of me wants to change schools due to a toxic work environment. My counterpart was my mentor 8 years ago. After 2 years the mentoring ended and we should be on the same playing field right? She has been at my school 2 years longer than me. Yes she is the team lead for leadership but that is just acting as a liaison between admin and the sped dept. She is toxic and I would miss my students 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m contemplating moving also
But I really like my little school and the teachers and students.
We have a new secretarial staff and a principal she started a couple years when Covid began. It’s just so different now we all used to be a team
We would have some arguments but never totaling losing respect for each other. I want it to get better and we teachers keep trying not all of us feel this way , there are that do than don’t. I teach special education K-5, mild to moderate and moderate to severe. I feel we sped people need a family that works together has each other’s back. It used to be that way before Covid. Covid has changed many peoples outlook on life.

Trust your gut…. It won’t get better. Move on !

That is such a toxic environment to be in. But I suggest you choose the best decision for yourself regardless of leaving the kids. If that has been going on for 4+ years then it's not going to change anytime soon I think

I should add that I have been thrown under the bus, belittled, made to feel inferior, one upped all the time and threatened to be tattled on because I actually do my job. Sorry this is a vent I guess.

That doesn’t sound healthy.

like

That is terrible! So sorry to hear this. It might be tough because you love your job but you should def leave if this is causing you to stress out. Have you reported her?

If you do they turn it around to be your fault. So no. I haven’t. My district supervisor is aware of the situation and supports me whatever I decide. I just worry that it’s not greener on the other side.

like

Hmm, I would fight to stay in the department but maybe see if you could get another team lead to report to? How does that dynamic work within your school

That is really tough. But I don't think 2% would be enough for me to change. If it was 98% wanting to change that would be a different story.

It’s really the one person. That’s not going to change.

Would changing schools be working with your age group etc? Do you see that this situation COULD improve? You will have kids come and go and some years the kids are extra special but they will move on. Your colleagues will be there for years. So if you can't see it getting better, move on.

The situation has been going on for 4+ years. Admin is not aware nor can you bring that to admin as an issue. It’s just the 2 of us so I do y see a lead change anytime soon. I got forced to 2 schools for 5 months this year. And the other school has an opening next year. It’s a further drive but the culture might be better.

It’s my birthday in a few minutes. 2021 has been a terrible year for me. My marriage ended. It wasn’t a bad end though. We are still close, just not romantic partners anymore. The very first dog I ever had died and I couldn’t go see her because of the quarantine. I didn’t get a promotion that I more than deserved. I don’t think I get paid well. Most of my friends moved out of the city and I’m having to meet new people at 32. I love my job but it’s incredibly stressful. I’m terribly lonely.

Are there really such things as “guy movies”? I’ve been married a long time and known a lot of people over the years. I just saw Bullet Train and really liked it. IMDB rated it high so I suggested watching it with my wife. It turned out to be very Quentin Tarantino-esque and she really didn’t like it. Same with British humor (in the US anyway). I thought In The Loop was hilarious, and of course Monty Python. I know there are exceptions but, honestly, I haven’t found many.

Does anyone have experience with related service providers wanting to discontinue services because the student is no longer making progress? In my eyes this is absolutely not a good reason! What are your thoughts? I’m mainly talking about OT and PT services for kids older than 3rd grade. Is there something I’m missing? I would never discontinue a reading program because a student isn’t making progress - I would work my butt off to find a solution. Is it different with OT and PT?
