Ah, I have missed the luggage debate threads.
The preferences on FB are generally:
- Briggs and Riley
- Tumi
- Rimowa
- TravelPro
- Away
- “why would you spend so much money on luggage, my $.50 TJ maxx brand is soooo much better and I put all of my money in investments!”
I have two Briggs & Riley carry ons and a check in Away (for a family of four).
I love the Briggs domestic soft shell spinner - expandable storage that compresses, suit carrier, well placed pockets, lifetime guarantee and a great rolling experience.
I picked up the Briggs simpatico (hard shell) on sale at Macy’s. It’s solid and has some of the same features as the domestic but not my favorite.
The away rolls really nicely and has been great for long haul family vacations. They have a generous return policy so you can try it out with little risk. My only complaint is that the handle feels a little wobbly at times.
Tumi used to be the gold standard but I don’t like their newer models. They feel cramped and I’m not a fan of how they roll.
I wanted to love the Rimowa but the handle design of the “essential” model dug in to my hand. I have also heard nightmare stories about people being theft targets when traveling with a Rimowa.
I’m starting to miss travel now that I have typed all of that out. Let us know what you decide.
I like Tumi! I love Rimowa more though. But both have been dependable for me
I love my Briggs and Riley bag. Spacious, light, compression feature is great, suit carrier, rolls great, fits in all non-RJ overheads (E170s and up work, CRJ700 is hit or miss but that’s true for any normal sized bag). Also possible to fix. I was stupid and messed up the wheels after dragging it through the snow/salt/slush too many times, but I ordered replacements online and now it’s like brand new! (You could also ship it out to get it fixed but I didn’t want to wait and I wanted an excuse to use my ratcheting screwdriver). Personally I think it looks great - professional but not flashy to the point you’d be worried like with a tumi or rimowa
