KPMG has a commercial credit advisory practice, which is a national practice with people living all over the country. I transferred from audit, got a pay bump, work 40 hour weeks stress free, flexibility with hours and where I work (MD told me I could travel as often as I like within the continental US)

Level of client-facing probably depends on the advisory group, but for this one it’s minimal. I’ve been working on a project for a few months and on occasion I communicate via email to loan officers etc at the bank to ask them questions, but the directors & partners have handled all official client calls which are mainly status & contract negotiations. No technical explanations necessary! I also struggled with explaining anything technical during audit, sometimes it was almost like the client would walk me through something and they would teach me…which brings into question my professional skepticism lol. Credit is much simpler than accounting in my opinion. From my experience thus far we perform credit file reviews and advise banks on how to improve the way they are doing things, and help them implement it. When I first started I helped provide feedback for the development of a piece of technology our group was collaborating with IBM and a tech group internally to develop. Separate from my practice, KPMG also has a blockchain group which is dope. There are so many different subsets of advisory, it’s def a whole new world worth exploring!

I felt the same but decided to leave the accounting. I’m in Business Development now and have really enjoyed the challenge of building and maintaining relationships among other things. Left audit w/o cpa. Just one avenue to consider for anyone looking to get out of Big4.

Probably industry accounting

Industry is working for clients and companies not firms. I would just open up your LinkedIn to recruiters and they should start messaging you but also look through LinkedIn jobs and search for senior accountant or analyst positions whichever one your going for and look for ones posted by actual companies and apply to them

like

You are a senior at big4 you have plenty of options. Come on to private industry. No cpa needed what so ever

PWC - same x 100. Plus adding the responsibility of being in charge of other people as well. It’s overwhelming me and I am constantly confused

Finish your CPA and go to industry
