I have friends with very good GPAs, and thanks to that they were recommended to good companies and basically, they graduated and already had a job.
In most engineering fields, it is difficult to start, almost all the positions are full, and as our job is to optimize more than everything, fewer and fewer people are needed to accomplish a task in an excellent way, when I graduated 5 years ago, I entered a company with new ideas, it took me 9 months to get a job, and when I did I implemented one of my new ideas, after 4 months other engineers were fired because my idea simplified processes. It was a great thing but personally, I felt horrible.
Hello, excellent question. I had a stroke of luck, the company was looking for an engineer trained in Linux, and I entered this company as an intern, and at the same time, I was completing a course in Linux. At one point my supervisor needed help with something basic in Linux but he didn't know anything at all, he helped him and that's how I got my position in this new company just before graduating as a systems engineer.
My experience was and is different, the new graduates found work and I still can't get a job in my field, I'm a petroleum engineer. I think the pandemic had a lot to do with it, when everything stopped I was finishing my university degree, two years later it is easier to hire someone who has recently graduated than someone with two years of graduation without experience. Do you think I'm right?
I felt like I had to network more and use my connections to find a job, and I also had to be more persistent in my job search. Many of my younger fellow graduates had already secured job offers before they even graduated.
