SC1 - for the most part they were withheld correctly on my end, because I’m an “employee”. Although apparently my employer did mess up during my maternity leave…I requested a voluntary tax withholding which they confirmed they were doing when in fact they were not. My bad for not realizing it at the time. So we owed for that hiccup. The bigger issue is that my husband is an equity partner at his firm now so instead of normal withholdings, we pay a (IMO, very sizable) *estimated* amount to the IRS every quarter. Turns out our estimates were off this year (bc he got a bonus, firm did better, etc). We just didn’t expect to need that much cash available in our checking account for today. We were able to move some stuff around to come up with the cash, but it got stressful for a bit! Oh well…Ya live, ya learn.

So did we. Try to picture a nice library or public park when you’re paying. Also call your HR and ask them to fix their withholdings.

Lmao who even pays taxes these days?

I just paid 25k for mine woooooooooo lol
I had to pay 37. 17 of that was from a home sale last year and rest is because my wife had literally 0.5% tax rate in her W2 😡
You had to see that coming, right?

Yeah, first year as an equity partner is tough. I’ve heard many end up in the negative for the first year.
Just paid $225k myself
Purchased run down 10 years ago for 600k. Put $400k in it, don’t have all receipts but sold for $1650k. Took depreciation for 4 or 5 years. $30k or so is for other capital gains. Tried to get another rental but didn’t work out otherwise would have moved it on to the next place to rent.

Trust me it could be lot worse 😂🧐
