Some people want to have a gorgeous site for their wedding. It's a great way to have the invite list whittled down for you.
If it's not in your budget, then don't go.
If it’s a for a regular friend, I wouldn’t sweat it too much. Just let her know why you can’t make it (budget) and move on
I personally love destination weddings. Usually smaller and more intimate, and I can make a vacation out of it. Still had 50 people show up to mine though.
2K is steep but do they have a room block rate?
Rising Star
They don’t which is weird
You don’t have to attend….
I had a destination wedding so people WOULDN’T attend

Think that’s totally valid D1!
OP- I don’t mean to be insensitive to your post. It sounds like you’re just venting and you have every right to. It IS annoying the amount of money these life events cost us.
Just try to be mindful that it’s not your wedding… it’s theirs.
For even more detail and context that you didn’t ask for:
Even among my friends that I invited to my destination wedding, there were a couple of people who declined that I REALLY wanted at my wedding. I simply followed up with them to ask why and if it was due to the money, I offered to pay for their room. One couldn’t come because she had other obligations already and two of my friends took me up on my offer.
It truly was an amazing experience being on holiday for a week with our closest friends and family and the best way for our new joined family to get to know each other.
A1- I think that’s really sweet and respectful that you did that! My best friends wedding is basically a destination wedding. I will spend to go for her day but it is appreciated for guests if we have something in return for the journey that we make. All of her childhood friends, myself included, work and live on the opposite coast. It’s more appreciated if you live up to the statement “I want all you there” if you help out in some way.
If she is a regular friend don’t go. No one is forcing you to be there either.
What’s the destination?
Don’t go?
