No. It’s a great question to ask. Too many ppl are afraid to beat around the bush and just say what needs to be said. Put him/her on the spot so you get direct feedback and don’t end up surprised come year end.
You can and should be asking what you need to work on to be promotion ready well before you roll off
Ask sooner than your roll off. That way you have time to work on any development areas
Should be asking this at the beginning of your promotion year and continuously. Not at the end. What can you do about it at that point?
Agree with D1. We all work with so many people across multiple engagements throughout the year, it’s easy to miss someone or not even know you’re going up a few months later. A lot people I know try to keep tabs on that but you know how this job can be. So when someone tells me and asks for feedback, I’m able to focus in on that person. If they nailed it and I think they’re ready, then I can focus on the promo in the review and just as important, help spread the word/politic some to help improve chances
Nope be upfront so you won’t be surprised
Throughout the project I asked if there was anything I should work to get ready for promotion however the manager provided very little guidance. They would only speak with my counselor about development opportunities.
If you weren't a straight up rockstar, or even if you were, consider asking what they would suggest working on in your next project to improve your performance at the next level. Provide that information to your counselor and hold yourself accountable to your next lead to follow through on that improvement.
Do it!!!
Go for it. "If you were asked level of support today what would it be" If support is yes "what else can I do to keep this support" If no "what should i be doing to earn your support"
