It was unthinkable for creatives to say no to weekend work, workcations, or anytime the “all hands on deck “ call went out ( usually Friday’s at around 5:15 PM, ) when I was a SVP CD growing up. I find it encouraging and healthy to read these comments that pushback on the idea that in order to be successful in Advertising you need to give up your outside life. This healthy attitude towards work life balance would have prevented a lot of burnout and saved countless marriages among my peers... keep pushing back and maybe just maybe a healthy change in attitudes will take hold.

Can’t wait to hear what Associate Creative Director 4 contributes.
Pete? That you?
He sounds like a nice teammate to me. And you sound like someone I'd never want to work with or for. So to each their own I guess.

@ACD3...now that’s more like it! I can’t give raises but I’ll see if I can get the platoon some water! Now where’s my cigar?

It’s so easy to get away from weekend work.

I feel this. Currently working every waking moment (or feels close to it).
Seriously having wtf am I doing and why moments ever hour or so.
My client’s business and my agency’s business is not worth giving my life for.
This is not sustainable.
This is big brain energy

You sound like a horrible teammate. If you say you’re not on call, then somebody else will have to do it. I would not want to depend on you our department. It’s called being on a team in an industry that is always on. If you can’t do it, there are a lot of people who would love your job
Maybe, maybe not. It depends on, is this a rare, all hands on deck sort of situation or is this a regular occurrence.
If it's a rare firedrll and it's important, then OP is an awful teammate.
If it's an every weekend sort of thing, then OP works at an awful agency.
Take a lesson from a doctor. A buddy of mine is a doctor and he doesn’t let “being on call” ruin his weekend or evening.
He doesn’t drink or do anything that compromises his ability to do his job but he’s not sitting at home waiting around.
Go out and enjoy your weekend. If you get the call then get to it, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your time while you’re not working.
