Staffing For a Project-Based World. What models are you all using when it comes to building your departments to meet the demands of clients who are shifting to project-by-project relationships?
Moms, I need advice. I’m one month in at D (previous consultant, spent last 5 years in industry as a leader of leaders) and came in at Mgr - and I *hate* it. I’m 13 weeks with our first and mat leave was a huge factor in coming to D, so feeling trapped. I spend more time dealing w/ asshole client SM (not my project SM) than doing work. My coach is great, but her advice was basically, “D is full of assholes 🤷🏻♀️, get used to it.” Is it too soon to leave? Especially pregnant? What to tell recruiters?
Hi! Any career coaches who offer a full support throughout job search? -Experience: 8 years of project/program management and/or communication -Companies of interest: Google, Microsoft, Facebook -Location: Washington DC or VA
Deloitte’s Diversity & Inclusion group hosted Nicole Hannah-Jones today and it was a goddamn breath of fresh air to hear her speak candidly. Even called the firm out in some places. If you haven’t seen her NYT 1619 project, educate yourselves https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/1619-america-slavery.html
Fellow consultants, I’m struggling and I know complaining about this will only make me look weak but I need to vent. I’ve been working upwards of 60 hours a week since January and I’m tired. If I was doing meaningful work, it would be one thing but most of my days are spent supporting my client with fire drills that end up not mattering. He’s very reactionary and trying to guide him to hold off or think of other approaches doesn’t work. (Cont).
Looking for recommendations on a good book/resource on how to manage people, especially when you’re managing teams to achieve tight deadlines and also overall leadership for those teams. Currently on a project with tight regulatory deadlines and feel like I’m struggling to push people without pissing them off. Great learning curve for me and a good read seems timely. TIA!
For those of you who have previously bought a practice, what are some key factors you want to look into when analyzing and conducting due diligence? Specifically for client retention.
If I’ve been asked to take a drug screen after I’ve already been confirmed and have used Marijuana in the last several days, will the client even care if it’s just some pot?
How many people are suddenly managing an intern they didn’t ask for because project leadership requested one without any idea or scope of what they’d actually do? 🙋🏼♀️
Anyone else ever feel like a completely inadequate consultant? I'm struggling with performance quality on this project because I just feel dumb and it demotivates me to really strive to improve. Possibly also impacted by burnout because I performed well on other engagements and enjoyed my teams more. Just not sure where to go from here to get where I need to be.
Do yall keep the timer running when on standby? (I.e. not exactly drafting but waiting for emails or dig pages to come in on closing day)
My ~60 person group at my firm has only 5 women in it. Is there any excuse at all for this? Every project I’m on feels like the old boys club
I have two contract offers: One is about Data Management/Quality project for 6 months, the pay is 5000£ per month, the other is product data scientist for an early stage startup based in San Francisco for 4 months, the pay is a lot lot less (less than 1000£ per month). Tbh, I am not a big fan of data management, and I totally see myself doing product analytics which is becoming a hot skill in DS field. Is it stupid to turn down the first offer and accept the second one? I would love some advice
The long and the short of it. I was laid off a couple of months ago, the clients on the account I ran loved me. Can I hit the client up about freelance? The non-solicitation part in my severance package mentions something about a year (which hasn’t passed yet), but still I’m no lawyer and it’s mostly mumbo jumbo to me.
What to expect at year end in terms of raise/ bonus? Started in November as SC. Was on the bench for 3 months. Been performing great since I started on project. (Fed practice)
I am creating so much documentation I know this client will let sit and rot and nobody will maintain it.
Fishbowl friends! What's the best way to network to get on a new project when I just switched to a new division and don't know many people?
Alright - for the ladies who found other jobs while on mat leave: when did you give notice - on your first day back? And was that essentially your last day at the firm, or did you stick around for a few days to wrap things up? (The new gig doesn’t start for a few months, so that I can be childcare.) I suspect my firm won’t want to pay me for two weeks to just stick around without a project, correct? Thanks in advance for any anecdotes or helpful tips.
Hi Fishes , Any program/project managers here ? What do you think is the future of technical program management in India ? Is it for mba grads who are comfortable with technology Or should only pure techies get into it ?
Let’s make a Creative Complaints bowl. A bowl dedicated to venting about what the client/account/pm did today to piss us off.
Would you say I am jumpy/a hopper if I move to corporate after one year out of mba at consulting...I am trying to apply for jobs now...not sure about any lead though
Anyone working with ITSS, do let me know about the company and benefits given to employee?@ITSS
I see a lot of posts of overworked people here but anyone underworked too now that we are remote? Anyone working just 2/3 hours a day and still getting great feedback?
Does anyone have any insider information, good or bad, about the design-tech firm, Beyond (Bynd)?
Got an interview with BCG DV. Can anyone who works or interviewed there provide some insight into the recruiting process? Or even working there
Anyone hear of Marakon, had a recruiter reach out but know nothing about the firm. Any first hand insight around the culture and type of work / clients are welcomed
What the senior salary for FDD in nyc?
What are everyone's thoughts on the link between performance and reward? Will this continue in the future? Has anyone moved away from ratings and if so how does it work? 🤔
TFW you’re constantly wondering whether or not you’re doing a good job, then find out that 2 top partners are fighting over you (even with a deep bench). Happy Flyday, 🐠🐠🐠
My H1B transfer to a new company got approved. But now deciding to stay with current company. Would there be any issues?
I’m miserable at my job but want to wait it out until I take an upcoming vacation in July. Is it stupid that I’m not looking for jobs when I’m completely bored, uninspiring and irritated everyday?
Everyone complains about b4 salary…but don’t realise that if you make partner…salary will never be an issue
Got an offer for 110k TC for a data engineering role at a T2 tech company. I have 2 YOE. Currently at 84k. Both current role and offer are located in Toronto. Should I take it?
Change my mind: Desis have lower dating standards when it comes to appearances when choosing Caucasians/white or Asian partners than Desis from their own culture. (If you lived long enough in the west, you all secretly know it is true... LOL!)
Does anyone have any advice on how to figure out what the average multiplier for billable hours is in a certain city? If this isn’t clear, I’ll receive x ($) times (the difference between my max billable hours and my min) as my yearly bonus. I know what number my firm uses but was told it’s been the same for years. I’d love to advocate for a raise with numbers reflecting averages in our city but have no idea how to find this information. Thanks!
Currently work at AWS in Business Intelligence and am looking to transfer into Product Management. Looking at MBB eventually. In my experience, most people from MBB have FAANG as their exit op. Why?
