On my first PM staff aug project. Should be simple enough, but at a client that’s understaffed and doing very technical work.

Everything is late and requires escalation, meeting with senior leadership, etc.

Tips and advice? I know PM roles are supposed to be easy, but I am getting pretty stressed.

don’t take anything personally. don’t equate your success with the perceived success of the project. there are so many factors outside of your control. just focus on doing your work to the best of your ability. over communicate and document accordingly.

I just came off something similar. Document everything.

Also if you are doing technical work eg data analysis, let your client know. I was doing a lot of technical work, but the optics were that there are status updates. Status updates took two hours a week max. The rest of the time I did technical work, which wasn’t really acknowledged.

Thanks all for the comments, very helpful!

Hi everyone…just looking for some sympathy and words of encouragement.
I joined Deloitte as an EH and have been on a client for 6 weeks now. It hasn’t been great but this week has been especially shitty… no one has a clue wtf is happening, everyone tries to blame someone else… they are extremely inefficient and I feel like most of the work I do is super urgent when I’m asked to do it but then no one really uses it 😅 what have I done???? Lol jk not giving up yet, still have hope!!
