It's unprofessional
D&G?
Nah. Well, not this time.
For realz.
If they like u they will move mountains to reach u. If not then its just them doing courtesy
Can confirm it's unprofessional. And I think it won't change until organizations' brands are materially associated with their recruiting practices, so it's story time:
AKQA's recruiters have reached out to me out of the blue, asked to set up a call, scheduled that call, ghosted, and then reached out again (sometimes same person months apart) with no continuity / memory of our past conversations, three or four times now. It's fine not to want to talk to a candidate after all, but if we set time aside in our schedule for a *confirmed* appointment, then how dare you disrespect us by wasting our time? It takes literally four seconds to paste a generic cancellation message into an email, and then I get that half hour of my life back. Instead, I'm incentivized to warn all my colleagues that AKQA doesn't respect the time of perspective candidates, and that they should seek elsewhere.
To all recruiters: Consider for a moment how much more important the job hunt is to candidates, than to you. We're choosing where we'll spend the lion's share of our waking hours, where/how we can afford to live, the quality of the medical care we'll get, the future trajectory of our career, sometimes even where our kids will go to school. If you don't understand how huge a decision that is, and how important it is to respect the candidate's process and needs, then you ought to spend some time in unemployment in order to remember.
@EL that’s too bad to hear. I actually used to work at AKQA for years and they were good for a while (until they weren’t). However I have to say the exact same thing happened to me with a recruiter flaking after our third reschedule (for another place). No explanation, not a word. Am I going to try to work for that place in the future? Hell no!!!
Is this an universal tactic? If so I don’t get it. Can someone from recruiting respond please?!
Circling back to this because I actually did end up hearing back from one of the recruiters that flaked without explanation. She said that she had to be unexpectedly out and she thought she had reached out. Ok maybe I believe her... except that she’s already used that same exact excuse before. It’s not that hard... there are tools (hell, even Google has a built-in feature) to show whether you’ve followed up or not. I’m assuming she had other convos and decided to move onto me now.
I’m going to reply though because this time I can say...’Sorry, I just accepted another job because I didn’t hear back.’ Not sorry.
Yep that just happened to me too. And it’s an inside recruiter... it really reflects badly on the company. So unprofessional.
Thank you for posting this. It happened to me twice this year. I was approached by two different recruiters: one from FBI talent and another from Ad Talent Inc. Both sent me warm and sweet introductions asking if I’d be interested in some determined positions, etc. After we started talking about setting a day and time to talk, they disappeared leaving no trace. I don’t understand how anybody can be so unprofessional and inconsiderate. A quick email telling that the opportunities were not available anymore would have been enough. I eliminated them form my LinkedIn contacts ( I added them after they contacted me). No time to waste with idiots
