Once laid off by a specific employer, do people ever go back to work for that same employer? For example, all the people laid off from Deloitte, will they ever work for Deloitte again in the future? Assuming there were performance issues.

Assuming NO performance issues*

Have seen a friend at Deloitte get laid off, return several months later in a different role / team, but same level.

It’s called boomeranging and it’s very common

Not for layoffs. For people leaving voluntarily, sure, happens all the time.

I’ve seen it happen a number of times, though usually some years had passed. But people may return because it was the best offer or perhaps they needed the job, especially if it’s a large employer in a smaller city or town and they’re unable or unwilling to move.

I’ve seen it happen. We have someone that says he was let go on 2008 but returned recently.

If laid off no. Even if no performance issues they’re basically saying I’m not valuable enough to them to try and keep me around vs. others. So I’d be inclined to focus elsewhere.

People will do it if they really enjoyed the job and people they worked with; however, do to market conditions they were forced out

I saw someone who got laid off from Deloitte and rejoined in a different group a level up from where they were. It caused some jealousy in their old group but props to them. Then they left for an MBA 6 months later. Power move.
