One of my executives thinks he is being endearing by calling women "Baby" "Gorgeous" "Sweetie" and he calls men "handsome". I have had multiple complaints against him from female employees and vendors. Does anyone know of any good training courses or advice that can help in this scenario?

First step: tell him. Direct and clear feedback, with expectation that he model the behaviors that map to the culture you want. Assuming that does NOT include trite, objectifying gender-based diminutives. Then, get him training and coaching. But I’d say that the missed opportunity so often is taking a stand and issuing repercussions to senior people who are some of the worst offenders.

It's not hard to believe. This is how some people talk. He may not even realize he's being offensive. If he hasn't been told directly, HR needs time deliver the message. In this day and age, those "terms of endearment" simply can NOT be used. Period. I'm from Maryland, where everyone used the term "Hon". As a college student, a couple decades ago, I was a waitress. Frequently, I called customers both male and female Hon. Without even thinking out it! My manager pulled me aside and brought this to my attention. This moment of self awareness was profound. Of course some people might take offense. How could I be so blind? I stopped immediately.

Any experience with having to plan for your interim while on maternity leave? I’m going to be out at the beginning of the school year and was told I have to plan for the sub but will be unpaid.

Alright, people who WORK in tax(specifically individual). It a parent doesn’t claim the child as a dependent, the child will have to choose”someone can claim me” anyways. Correct?

It seems partners are much more flexible with associates who have kids than with those who don’t. If it’s okay for my colleague with a kid to leave at 5 pm and log on later, why isn’t that the same for me (no kids)? My obligations might be different, but I still have a life and want to be able to do certain things, like catch that evening workout class or cook dinner for my partner. As you can probably tell, my firm is operating 100% in person. There is no point here — I’m just whining.

Seeking advice: anyone have experience dealing with a meddling sister-in-law (brother’s wife)? She’s constantly overstepping the bounds of what I think is appropriate (I.e., bossing around my elderly mother, getting rid of things without asking my mothers permission, changing my mothers decor). It just doesn’t feel right for her to do these things to my mother/interject in family affairs like this. Understandably brother doesn’t want to get in the middle of it. How to handle this?
