One of my favorite perks at salesforce is that we get 56 hours a year of volunteer time off (and really good donation matching). What other companies have something similar?

We match up to 10,000 in donations and I think we give 2 days of volunteer time

like

Nice! I think you match double what we do ($5,000). Though I think we increased it during COVID.

like

We get 5 days Time2Give, during covid it was increased to 10 days to volunteer. There’s also a donation match for eligible charities, but don’t know the limit.

That's really good too, I like these kind of perks - I don't really have that at my current job but something to suggest

Black Baud, which sells primarily into the non-profit space, employees can an hour of additional PTO for every two hours of volunteer time. They also have a donation matching program and a grant program where employees can nominate charitable organizations for company donations.

like

That's a pretty cool concept. Because people can't take advantage of the PTO unless they're willing to commit to the volunteer hours.

In my former life I worked with REI (the outdoor rec company) and they give good volunteer time off also. I wish more tech companies did this.

like

Years ago, when I worked at Bank of America, they offered 5 paid days of volunteer time. I wish I'd have taken more advantage of it back then.

Hello Fishes,
What are your leave plans?
(Year end is nearing, most of the accounts must have or will move to Code Freeze period and some of the leaves will expire by year end).

1. No leave plans at all.
2. Utilise some part of leave.
3. Utilise all leaves for Vacation.
4. Utilise all leaves for Upskill/Reskill.

Hey all I have an opportunity to buy a vacation home as a private sale from my parents (they are buying a new house in that area and need to sell the old one), it is waterfront property in NH 10 minutes from Mt Sunappee. I am concerned that making this purchase may make me a little cash poor in the short term, but still manageable. Would it make more sense to rent out the property through a rental company that included insurance and cleaning or to put it on airbnb?

I have been at my company for a little less than 4 years now. I’ve had the third highest sales last year out of a team of 50 and consistently the highest outbound calls per week. They told me I can start WFH once I hit $1mil in profit, but then rescinded right before I hit the goal. They have also denied simpler request like time off, when I know they have approved this before for others. I feel super unappreciated, but the money is great. I’m not sure if I should look elsewhere and start over?

No idea about team/culture/stability differences yet.

The non-work factors I'm debating are:
1. Cost-of-living (housing!). Could probably afford a nice ~$1.25M SFH in Seattle suburbs sooner than a fair $1.5-2M near Cupertino.
2. Public School quality. Unsure private will be affordable.
3. Weather/region: activities
