Sitting with a kid at my desk and asking him if he was lost and in the dark in math class. He said yes.....I told him if I had a flashlight I’d come find him.... I smiled, he looked down.... I opened my desk and grabbed my flashlight, turned it on and said, “we got this”

The day after I had to kick a kid out for being mouthy and disrespectful, I heard another kid say to her “yeah, well you got kicked out and written up yesterday” while they were talking. She replied “ yep, but today is a brand new day!”

I ALWAYS tell them each day is a brand new day, an opportunity to be your best.

When I had a kid leave my class for being disrespectful and I called the ES teacher to come and get him. I told them I was not cleaning up the kids mess. When he left he went to the door turned around and said.” I’m really sorry”.

I was contacted by an Amazon recruiter for a remote Sr. Program Manager role. I took and passed the assessment and was moved to the hiring manager round which was scheduled for tomorrow. I got an email tonight saying that the Director of the group decided that the person must be in Seattle. I am in Austin, which is not an option. I’m disappointed! The recruiter will let me know if any remote roles come up but in the mean time, does anyone have any remote Amazon roles that they’d refer me to?

So what is everyone using to teach GUM skills (grammar, usage, mechanics)? Would anyone be interested in something like a no nonsense, logical progression, keep it simple program that addresses standards, ACT skills, and common writing issues? We’re presently piecing things together from several sources. I’ve had requests from former students and colleagues to put something together. I haven’t seen anything that has everything we need in one place.

Thanks to all who offered advice on retirement and FMLA. I think I will just retire after my sick days are used up. I'm 58, over 28 years teaching. Pension is good. I'm just worried about district not accepting Anxiety as medical reason. Can they fight me. Will a simple note from Dr or therapist explaining I am seeing therapist for anxiety suffice?

Good evening everyone,

I have to rant and seek advice. It’s my 5th year teaching overall. I’m a 1st year at a new district it’s been really nice except for just some very small inconveniences: no classroom budget, too many meetings during planning time, printers are so bad that I had to bring mine from home, my district gives teachers chromebooks for laptops. I’m a a point where if I was invited to come back next year I’d say tell them no, am I crazy, is it just me? Please help

What's a rule you are expected to enforce that you strongly disagree with or are indifferent to. Do you enforce it or take the risk? I move around as a tutor and am currently working with a school that has a ridiculously strict formal address policy. One of my second graders refers to me as "Miss Tutoring (my first name)" - it's about the cutest thing ever and doesn't bother me one bit. We are moderated sometimes and I'm more worried about her getting in trouble than me for not abiding.
