Only 8 months into consulting, and I'm not a fan (making endless slides, overly-analytical answers, low creativity) People who've left, how did you know what you wanted to do?

I’m at 7 months and plotting my escape as we speak. Consulting ain’t for everyone.

I’m almost at a year, same.

It's a fluff over content. We try to make companies ideal. However practical aspects are different. Reality is more dynamic than idealistic pp slides. Having been in industry and consulting for 5 years each, all I can say is consulting work is more about money as opposed to the true knowledge.

This is the question...I know so many people who want to leave but don’t exclusively because they don’t know of anything they think would be better.

They’re still in consulting :)

Are you starting out in your career? If so, the early stages is all about learning and absorbing. My first six months I was mostly just taking notes and helping out here and there. It’s not always about what you are doing but also who’s around you that you can learn from.

I am, and that's the thing. I'm realizing I don't necessarily want to be like my higher-ups. The consulting skillset is great, but I don't know if it's right for me. All the same, I have no idea of what else I could do.

It took me about a year to find people and work within my firm that I truly found exciting, creative and impactful. I don’t think I fit the “typical consultant” idea in terms of talents or interests, and I absolutely love my work here now. I know it’s not for everyone but definitely explore internally while you can! There’s more to consulting than the average project.

Hit me with your most insane travel story. I’ll start... Our client restricted bringing luggage on-site and a teammate “stowed” their bag in a nearby bush outside the office... (see below)
