I like how they publish this now after about 65% of the US is vaccinated.

Chew Toy incoming. Hi! What does this have to do with … anything?

Love how no one actually addresses the arguments presented. Like clockwork.

TL1 - I found it via Google to read without a paywall. Their argument is that VAERS underreports issues, of which there are a few hundred reported. They say this after they note that the issue they reference as a result of vaccines drops to zero after 10 days. The also say VAERS doesn’t have non-vaccine occurrence rates for comparison (duh), but other places have a reasonable comparison to vaxx vs non-vaxx risks. They sidestep this in a somewhat dishonest way (address it as a gap within a system when it’s not a gap more broadly). They argue politicization of science in media is to blame for degrading trust in science, while actively contributing to that degradation. They even note “some people had incentives” to make claims, when they are included in the population with incentives to make claims (they wrote many pro hydroxy articles and non-peer reviewed studies while holding consulting relationships). The whole article is part of the problem it calls out in terms of politics in science and money influencing publishing, and I found it generally posturing and more self-advertising by two professors who probably have publishing requirements vs have public interest at heart.

It’s an opinion pieces. The data (facts) proves these buffoons are just that. $100 says they received money or a *research* grant from some shady entity with questionable links

This statement in this article refers directly to these two authors’ own work on recommending hydroxychloroquine: “Scientists have advocated for or against Covid-19 therapies while having financial relationships with product manufacturers and their foundation benefactors.” Their complaint is that there might be side effects we haven’t fully measured. They’re not wrong, but their argument does what it complains about - it breaks down some trust in the scientific community without providing ample evidence. Very ironic.

Media field the partisan divide is a double edged sword. Conservative media makes a habit of attacking the media, which majorly breaks down trust, even when not deserved. Not sure why you brought up the lab leak. It was always a possibility, but not the highest. It was least likely of the scenarios. It was downplayed due to Trump’s insistence of fault and name calling that was driving anti-Asian sentiment. The US has had a long history of anti-Asian sentiment and progress is slow. The statista article shows more of the damage caused by partisan media rather than performance of the CDC. That said, yes, the CDC did botch some things early on moving fast, test kits among them. There’s a fact that we don’t know everything early on and they probably would’ve been better served with less coverage and more requests to wear masks and be patient - we’ll get them off your face when we know more.

My husband and I have concert tickets to a big outdoor festival that was cancelled for covid and is now happening in late August. His brothers and some college friends are flying in to stay with us. We just found out we're pregnant and I'll be 9 weeks by concert time. We aren't ready to tell anyone but we can't think how we can ask them to cancel without explaining. We are all vaccinated and are in SF so cases are low, but not zero. Any advice?

I have always dreamt of living abroad. A few years in Europe, and then APAC. Transfer plans fell through with covid, and I’m pretty sure they will be delayed due to Delta. Turning 25 this month and feel like that dream is getting farther away. I’ve always been ambitious, but as I’m getting older I’ve realized traveling and exploring other cultures is what truly makes me happy and that’s what I want to use my career in tech to fund. I know this is a first world problem, but has anyone done this?

I feel violated - stepdaughter asked me and my husband to ensure that we’re Covid free prior to traveling to visit her. I assured her we are vaccinated and limit contact with others. A few days later I learned she took her entire family to a sport event where people tested positive for Covid. It seems hypocritical.

The number of COVID cases on the rise again, folks. Wear masks and social distance! Here’s hoping the rise in number of cases is just because of increased testing, but the uptick in number of hospitalizations in not good news. This is by no means “disappearing” as the President continues to claim.

Need YOUR advise. I have a concert tomorrow at a sold out stadium concert. We’re in a Covid surge here with Delta, I am vaccinated but high risk. Should I cancel? Tickets weren’t that expensive. Just not sure how I feel about being with 20K folks. Especially wit the new data from the CDC.

Despite our covid numbers going up, my district is starting in-person learning. I teach first grade and am scheduled to go back Dec 8th. We are using a "concurrent" model where we will be teaching both in person and online students simultaneously. Mondays will be planning days. Is anyone else doing this? What advice do you have to do this successfully without being totally exhausted?

Since Covid happened, I keep seeing posts about people working longer hours from home than at office. Well has anyone actually achieved the opposite, which is working less hours? You save time on commuting, meaningless meetings, coffee breaks, random questions from coworkers, etc. This question doesn’t apply to parents with young kids.

Anyone know what Weil’s average hours are like given that they don’t have billable requirements? A lot of people say big law comparable but I know some people in big law shooting for 2000 and some shooting for 2600 and those are two very different worlds. Was considering applying to a role there but wanted to get a feel for what this really equates to.
