Opinion question: do people in Big 4 dislike their jobs more than their counterparts in other industries or smaller accounting/advisory firms? I’m a first year for reference, would like to gauge the room of corporate America. Also trying to gauge exits for down the line, but don’t want to hold a “grass is greener” mentality

What service line are you in? The hate within the big4 is not distributed evenly

likefunny

Used to be in the risk/IA group and absolutely hated it, as did everyone else there. I recommend getting out asap unless you want to do IA in industry. It's not a job anyone really enjoys. At best it's boring but bearable.

If you want any level of interest in your job, try going to another service line or jumping to industry before you get pigeonholed.

like

Yes. All my friends left to go into industry or smaller firms and they enjoy it much better. Hours and work life balance isn’t the same.

like

people come here to vent so you will definitely see the worst side of it. I love my job but still vent here all the time!

like

I think the hate/hr is the same. We just work more

like

It’s really dependent on character and team.

I don’t know. Most seem to stick it out because the pay and bonus is a lot higher than most smaller firms.

Hi all! I am former federal government. I resigned due to lack of opportunities and growth. I am interested in a couple of Apple service roles within Pay, Care and SDS. Also, Amazon PM roles under Music, Live Sports and Brand Protection. However, with to the current economic conditions is it smarter to focus on fed roles versus Tech. I’ve never had a Tech role. I have a BS Mechanical Engineering and MBA. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey! I've always wanted to get into IB (prestige, money, you name it), however now that I'm in a more laid back environment (better WLB, "easier work") it doesn't seem as attractive as before and the pay is quite good for an analyst level (I think the pay is competitive even comparing with IB's pay in my country) . I wanted to know if anyone had the same experience and what were your thoughts (pursue an MBA and leave your comfort zone and "good pay" or just stick with it). TIA!

Working as a Senior Accountant at Vanguard with my CPA; 3 YOE, Greater Philadelphia area. Took this job to give accounting one more try and while I don’t regret it I’m bored. Anything in finance more challenging/less box-checking? People have recommended public but I’m not interested in audit/tax or travel.

Currently have the FRM title.
I failed CFA level 3 once.

I'm hoping to eventually do CAIA, but only after I'm done with CFA. I'm also hoping to do non-financial certifications, like Certified analytics professional (CAP), and learn about web development.

While I may have the title of manager, I am still an individual contributor. The type of work I do involves quantitative analysis/data analysis/science.

Any suggestions as to what I should start with?
