Unit economics are pretty bad. Don’t anticipate it will survive the next recession. But, it could still be a great career booster depending on what you’re doing.
I’ve heard unit economics are negative RN. In general, if profitable, I think it’s a solid industry. Interviewed for a GM role there recently and walked away bc base comp was way too low.
Zero barriers to entry, commoditized offering, regulatory and public opinion pressure. Sounds. Like a fun market. Sounds very hard being at Bird when Uber and Lyft have mountains of location/transit data to leverage.
unit economics are bad like everyone says. i think the experience of working there would be pretty good though. obviously they are coming out with more durable scooters and raising prices, and i do think that in a few years it could look much different from how we see it now.
that being said, if other ideas with less overhead/hardware costs are still losing money (uber/lyft), how long for scooter companies to be profitable? i get that scooter companies might have other advantages (e.g. uber and lyft sort of paved the way, they don’t need to develop as robust a logistics back end because people can grab their own scooter instead of needing to match rides and map routes, etc), but i do think it’s an uphill battle.
fwiw i’m a huge fan and ride them everywhere i can.
Sounds sweet. Any other details on what the role would entail? Just curious
Difficult to scale and some cities are more suitable than others, fun to work there for a couple of years maybe but I don’t think they have enough money to pay high salaries like any other startup
Is it me, or does everyone over 30 hate these things?
I’m 37 and my wife and I use them. However they’re incredibly dangerous (seen many accidents) and they’re such an eyesore in my neighborhood.
