This is probably one of the go to debates in this bowl. I think the frame of reference is broken in most of these conversations. Typically USA > Canada >>>>> India. If all you care about is wealth and jobs, then US wins hands down, however if you take a longer view and compare not to the US but to your other option (typically India), Canada is not all that bad. Also, this sounds simplistic but you aren’t making a decision that’s going to impact you for a year, it’s going to be 5-10 years, so it’s not about the salary but a lot more about building a life and what components matter vs. not.

D4 - my view is driven by a few things - 1. Healthcare, Canadian healthcare is good and free 2. Access to education etc, schooling etc. which is free 3. Quality of basic stuff, safety, air, water etc. 4. Actual social safety net I will also add, this massively depends on your socio economic status in India. I don’t have the connections and network in India to make things happen, and being middle class in Canada is personally better for me. I’ve seen my parent suffer thanks to Indian healthcare and the manipulation in the system, I have seen my kids education in Canada and in India; and I’d take the experiences in Canada over India any day. Lest we forget, Canada is still a rich country, it’s just not as rich as it’s neighbor.

Move to Canada only if you are worried about immigration. I know life is tough on H1B but trust me it will not be that different in Canada without a job/with a job with lot less Salary and you will pay so much in taxes, Canada is way like way too expensive. Number of opportunities are way less compared to The USA/India.Had an offer in last fall but turned it down. I factored in these parameters cost of living, taxes, less number of opportunities, CAD$ conversion to INR and to top it off the bone cracking cold.

Canada. Happy wife, happy life. And no visa issues!

like

Crazy thought but maybe move to India where you’re free to do whatever you want? Crazy thought I agree

Y’all have clearly not lived the good life in India (the people who are saying you can’t live in India post US). It’s amazing and you have the freedom to do anything you want. It’s your fault if you can’t be yourself in India because of family or neighbors or whatever. As a young guy in Bangalore I had more fun than I do now in US. Outta this shit soon. PEACE

Call me crazy, but isn’t your wife’s decision important here. I could never stay in a country where i couldn’t work no matter how many millions my husband made.

Such a weird analogy M1, if he wanted his wife to work, he shoulda marry the woman who wants to work and is happy to be the bread winner. So yes it is her wish to work, as is yours. You find partners that meet your need. And you conveniently missed the first part of my comment where i said if she wants to work she’ll be frustrated if he decides to stay in the US. Also home-makers might not go outside to earn but have equal contribution in making a home. Your logic is messed up.

Canadian born desi who moved to US in pursuit of better and faster career progression! 🙋🏽‍♀️ I would stick it out in US. Yes, there are good social programs in Canada but taxes are understandably higher. You will eventually make more money in US - it’s a generalization but I’ve seen it!

Waiting for Pandemic and US to stabilize. Applying for few remote opportunities. Will move to US. Even if I continue to stay in Canada, I will strive to work for US companies here. Way better work experience.

bhai don't come to Canada. I have been here for 8.6 years now, and planning to move to US. We don't have good enough # of opportunities here, and it ends up affecting career in long term.

Agreed with D3. Living in Canada for a few years, will move back to the US once the current political dust settles

Or just move to India if money is not a key factor. I moved back, work is very.interesting, culture is similar, especially in big cities like Bombay and Bangalore. But if you want to settle abroad and need decent cash, Canada is a better choice in terms of lifestyle and stress free life

OP - Do you already have Canada PR? You can only make choices based on things you have currently. If not, you need to make a decision to work towards it. With a good IELTS, your options open up for other countries such as Aus, NZ, UK, Ireland etc which offer better quality of life than the US.
