Others have experience spending weekends doing alt travel (rather than returning to your home city)? How have you managed, any repercussions in the way you were perceived at your firm?

I did it every other weekend for 9 months. Great way to stay in touch w/ friends and fam after I relocated for my role.

like

Didn't tell anyone and nobody cared. Was in the Midwest and travelled to LA instead of home to NY

like

Flexed a couple times, it's a fairly soft rule, as long as you don't go nuts on airfare, or try to do anything stupid like expensing hotels.

like

Yeah I've alt traveled and nobody cared. I would say my teams have actually encouraged it. Are you worried your team will think you're lazy for traveling instead of working on the wknd or what trepidation do you have?

like

I'd also add it's the holidays and nobody wants to be a grinch

like

I think our official policy is that if the flight costs more than your flight would cost to go home, you pay the difference. In my 6 months of experience though, it definitely varies project by project

like

Same here @Deloitte 2. Depends on the budget available for each project. For example., if you have one (or two) local resources on a project, but there is still a 20% cap on expenses.. No one would probably care.

like

I have used it to the max! Even did a quick 3 day trip to Germany for Oktoberfest. All flights paid for 💁🏻

like

I've had more of an issue with social repercussions from other Associates who may not be on projects with as much budget leniency for alt travel, so I now just avoid being too flashy about it on social media and being appropriately appreciative of the situation when it comes up.

like

As a side note to the above... Many times it's not necessary at all to give a heads up if your flight times are the same. It is company policy for alternative travel.

like

I booked travel from an alt location for next week,l without asking approval yet. Will do so after the fact and shouldn't be any trouble getting approval. If the flight is within a hundred bucks of what you normally pay and isn't all that much to begin with (250-400), nobody should really care

I did it almost every weekend when I was based out of Singapore, and fellow consultants did the same so it was never taboo. We'd ask/tell our teammates where we're going that weekend all the time. I just relocated to the US, don't know if they'll have the same attitude here.

I do it every week, for couple weeks went from CLT to LAX every week :)

Not sure what the culture is like at other firms but if you're flexing on the weekend is a weekly conversation....

^^ oops. It is a topic that comes up over lunch every week. Going anywhere this weekend?

Absolutely no one bats an eyelid unless your alt travel is crazy expensive. #youdoyou

No repercussions. Make sure you run it by your Manager or Sr Manager as an FYI first if you think there may be a problem later down the road.

Agree with the other Deloitte posts on here. I usually run it by my M/SM first, but they've always fully encouraged it. Alt travel is one of the best perks of the job - take advantage!

On my delta flight today , I am no.2 for upgrade for a business class seat, and no.1 for Delta comfort upgrade . The person at no.1 for business class upgrade is at no.2 for delta comfort. 🤔

I’m a first year and fucked up big time. The client doesn’t know about this but a senior associate was furious. I know it’s 100% my fault but no one above me actually reviewed my work bc everyone was so busy. But then I found out the senior gave a rant about how I fucked up to another colleague. When I apologized to him, he was really salty. Since then, my heart drops every time I see his email bc I’m too scared. He is usually pretty emotional and his instructions are vague, which doesn’t help.

Advice from PwC fish needed.. I posted a week ago about an offer for an A1 “experienced associate” from PwC -team is digital assurance transparency. Even tho I thought that sounded off, I ended up accepting. My letter just said Associate @ 68k base. Now I have access to People Path & my job level says A2. So is PwC on a cohort model, or not? Is there anything I can do here? I pushed back hard on the A1 vs A2 thing b4 signing and the recruiter was adamant I would be an A1
