Go to a Hispanic ERG event or a women's ERG event and you will see why they are necessary. I'm honestly a bit disturbed by this post. You do know that ERGs are meant to bolster the experience of minorities at these predominantly white male firms? And like someone has mentioned, there is a men's ERG-AND ERGs are open to all so you can join them even though you are (clearly) not a minority. Maybe you should attend a few events and expand your thought process.
I'm so happy I never have to work with this shithead 😃😃😃
I'm going to found a Partners Resource Group. Who's with me?
Typical white male
Op stop using big words you Troll
(1) Networking events are not the purpose of these groups. Those are tactics. The purpose is to ensure members of historically excluded groups feed included at a firm where the indicia of inclusion may not exist, such as senior leaders from those groups, and some employees may act in ways that (even if implicitly and unknowingly) tends to exclude members of the group. The networking events provide an opportunity for the firm to say "I know we're still working on it, but there are many other people like you here." If you seriously believe there's a problem of white people (or are you focused on white men?) feeling excluded because of their status as white people (men?), then you should first work demonstrate that the problem exists. As you can see from this thread, there's a lot of skepticism on that point. Then, you should work to determine an appropriate solution to the problem you've identified. Founding a support group may or may not be the right answer. This path will be much more successful than what appears to be a "me too" demand. (2) I agree your current approach would be problematic, but not because your firm is likely to discriminate against your political beliefs. Your claim that you deserve something because others get it is flawed and not based on fixing an identified problem. So your proposed solution will seem like whining about a problem no one believes exists. (3) They might well have, but then the government made that illegal. My point was I don't think employee resource groups violate any laws or even generally recognized rights, and they seem to have a rational business case. Public universities are a different story because they are extensions of the government, which is not the situation our firms are in. Anti-discrimination laws generally govern hiring and conditions of employment. I'm not sure they would cover support groups unless the inequality created a hostile work environment.
I'm exhausted. Comprehensively exhausted*
@OP 1) you don't know what I am, your assertion doesn't work in this case 2) people have a natural (often unintentional) bias towards people like them, e.g. preferring people who went to your school
Mic drop after Partner 1 & EY 2.
I'm a white dude and I get invited to all sorts of BRG events. If I was single I'd go to all the women's groups 👹
What's the objective of the men's resource group?
Honestly, I've never been, and I don't know any other men who have been because it's ridiculous.
@BCG it's honestly ludicrously racist to assume that because they're white they're going to think the same way as me or choose me over a more qualified candidate. imagine if i said that a black partner didn't promote me because he only promotes blacks. wouldn't go over well, would it?
also, it's simply untrue and unfair to assume that all decision makers are white
@OP do you know what ad hominem means? You tried to refute my logic with an ad hominem attack...
Dude. You again? Reporting. Thought you were done with your troll LOLs on IWD.
Y'all don't worry, he's just trolling for points in this app. Shhh, no one tell him there's no payoff.
congrats to accenture for being actually progressive
and i am going to take this to the firm's HR team. looking for actual counter-arguments to prepare my case. As usual, only ad hominems
@OP you did when you claimed my assertion was racist, or are you claiming I'm racist against myself?
@Marty come back to the trap thread. Don't waste time with this.
Or Joey freshwater, rather than complain...start your own group. That's how the others started. Then ask for funding. Ur not a victim.
