My district just purchased Gizmos. Thoughts?
I teach 5th grade science. I love it
Hi everyone! The Environmental Education Collaborative in Southern California is hosting an online symposium Feb 25-28 (after school and weekend hours) and we would love to have you. Our topics this year include Justice, Literacy and Wellness. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be leading a "Bob Ross" style painting session on the Wellness day that teaches the steps of the water cycle while incorporating SEL strategies. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2021-environmental-education-symposium
I have each student sanitize their stations and materials before the may leave
Makes sense, I’m probably over thinking the solutions
I do not have sinks in my 120 year old lab so the students use wipes on their hands
Honestly, I was told this last year and I told administration that that was a ridiculous expectation and had the kids do virtual and at-home labs all year. It wasn't optimal, but neither is being sued/reprimanded because the kids didn't do a decent job of cleaning and/or someone had a bad reaction to the spray/wipes.
That said, at the moment there's not much evidence that COVID-19 spreads through contact with surfaces as opposed to breathing in airborne particles, so enforcing mask wearing in labs is probably more important than cleaning every surface multiple times per day.
Great answer, I don’t really like virtual labs but during the pandemic, it was better than no labs. Now that students are returning, I didn’t want I deprive them of real labs. I spoke to my principal and we will be using hand sanitizer after using the equipment. Problem solved
Hopefully herd immunity will take affect as of right now COVID is once again on the rise
What about having kids wash their hands before and after contact?
I would like to do that but imagine how much water and paper towels would be used. I’m not making up excuses, but we’re talking about labs every period, multiple times a week. The answer is using multiple sources, hand washing, sanitizing wipes, alcohol, and gloves and lots of elbow grease.
