Don’t ever talk yourself out of a raise, and know that you are your own best advocate.
100%, no one will fight for you the way you will for yourself
Are you performing? If so, why be worried. It’s a chance to get paid what you’re worth.
Sounds like good news to me!
I'd say see how it goes. Merit-based raises can be a good thing, depending on how the company manages and measures things.
Why does this have you worried? As long as you're performing well, merit raises should be welcome news.
Chief
If you think about it, most raises (and promotions) are merit based, and all they are really doing it adding a process behind those raises. Unless it is "Stack Ranking" (where you are competing with your coworkers) you likely don't have anything to worry about.
Make sure you have a really clear understanding of how they are assessing merit for your role by talking to your manager ahead of time and really clearly match your self-eval to those measures
Yup ^^^
Self evaluations are your golden ticket to better raises/bonuses. Don't just put 3 bullets that say you did a good job. Document EVERYTHING you worked on and show as many RESULTS as you can. When the proof is there, they have no reason to deny you a good raise/bonus.
