**Trigger warning for boomers and elder millennials** I think it’s kinda toxic to keep demanding that staff stay until the manager or senior leaves. My team doesn’t require this as long as you are meeting your hour quota and meeting deadlines for assignments.
Partner 1,keep it up and you’ll see who is left on your team. If you are preaching team work so bad , do the work yourself since it’s your company
Be direct. Stop wasting time with it or it will bite you in the butt. Tell this person in the morning and not at 450 when they are packing up and not in front of a group either
If you do tell them at the end of the day, or even in the morning, I usually give people a day in case they need to make arrangements. Like hey the team is pretty busy and most of us are working late. Can you plan on working some additional hours starting tomorrow.
Does he get his job done ? If so, then I don’t think that’s a problem. If he has loads of review notes, then he needs to spend more time on self-review. It’s all about efficiency and quality !!!
This is the way. Everyone has stuff to do on their task list. The task list will be filled up as the tasks are completed indefinitely. It's like saying he has a job so he should just do his job instead of having a life. As long as he is producing good work and does his job, who cares where he is when he is doing it? If he is missing deadlines or not on track, that is something else.
If i see in my talent link booking for 40 hour during non busy season and manager did not mention that task should be done today or asap, I will go home and finish task later. Also, sometimes managers have few teams and try manage everything or just have more staff to review.
Time for the tables to turn. The new generation is realizing they don’t need to sell their soul to work or “pay their dues and drink the koolaid” to make a good living.

Keep telling yourself that - but you’re working in professional services with demanding clients, tight timelines and high fees. There will always be crunch times that mean long hours. If you want a 9-5 in accounting you can find it, but it won’t be in professional services and won’t come with the same upward mobility.
Is your associate the person who posted yesterday to confirm 9-5 is normal?
I would have a 1:1 discussion around expectations. You’ve been on this account for x weeks and you’ve done really well at tasks. I’ve noticed you’re coming in at 9-5 but the expectation is really # of chargeable hours per week, so would like to see you working longer hours the days we are in the office together.
It’s an example. OP should revise with the actual expectation.
Are they going home and working or wrapping up for the day?
Definitely wrapping up.
