Out of curiosity, is anyone else a single parent on here? I have 50/50 custody, but with all the school activities, on my nights alone I am making up time and working. Leaves little time for personal me time, let alone dating. At this point in my career, it’s not easy to just “coast” and a nanny is not an option. Anyone else in the same boat? Haven’t seen as many single parent executive women around.

Same. 7 years happily divorced but no significant relationships in that time. Occasionally dabbled when kids were with their Dad but no one met the mark to meet my kids or become integrated into my life. Kids are now older so there’s more space but the pickings are slim to sad. I’m surprised when people talk about getting re-married…particularly successful women who aren’t having more kids. Fool me once. 😉 Now that I’m on the brink of oldest going to college I’m definitely more open to finding someone but I’m also painfully aware of the countdown to both my babies flying the nest and refuse to settle for anyone who doesn’t genuinely enhance my already pretty great life (meaning if I’m working 12 hour days - maybe we don’t have the same earning potential but you cook and make me laugh - whatever the trade off may be). So while I have a very healthy social life I don’t want to miss enjoying these last couple of years. IDK that’s just what works for me. All of that to say - you’re not alone. And as crazy as it often feels, in the blink of an eye the kids will be off living their lives and you’ll gain a lot more “you” time. Hang in there.

I’m a single parent, my kids are 22 and 18 now, but I’ve been divorced for the last 7 years. Nanny wasn’t an option for me either, and I don’t have any family near me. It’s just hard. Both of my kids had cell phones at young ages because I had to keep in constant communication with them with all the changes. I had to make my son Uber home from school when he was 11 years old at least a couple of nights a week. I worked for companies that understood I needed to leave early some nights in order to catch games, practices, events, etc. but it almost NEVER worked. Someone would walk into my office 5 minutes before I’m supposed to walk out. I’d be packing my stuff up, and these people could not read the room and would still keep talking.

The only advice I can give is to set boundaries with EVERYONE including yourself and your kids. Stick to the time you’re supposed to walk out at work, if you’re lucky enough to be remote, maybe combine that somehow with me time while your kids are at school. Partner with some of the other moms and do play dates, each week one mom takes the kids for a few hours, giving the other moms a break for a few hours, and then rotate.

Just make sure you get the time you need so you don’t break, because it’s easy to do so.

Hi. This is like me. Except my child’s father doesn’t have any structured arrangement so he just shows when he wants and when he wants the child solo he tells me like 12 hours in advance so there is no way for me to plan any social event…I’m just alone. Tremendously frustrating but there’s a lot going on. Question….if I might ask…do you need to pay child support to the father?

I’m in the same boat, 50/50 arrangement with ex husband and I pay him child support. It’s tough

I’m an adoptive mother so I signed up for single parenthood. Some of the things I utilize to support my situation are meal delivery services, laundry services, and housekeeping. No lie, I pay quite a bit for my support but it does allow me to enjoy my time with my children and have a life. I have also established a great network for babysitting (even for a weekend getaway once each year).

Hello. I am the sole parent of two pre-teens. I have no family help but I did have a nanny before covid. Its hard, very hard at times. The only way I can make it work is to focus on them and work. There is nothing left for exercise, dating, deep friendships. I made the choice to bring them into this world and as a result I devote any free time that I have to them. I would not change a thing.

I’m remarried now, but I was a single mom for years. I did have household help (mainly housekeeping and driving my kids). I didn’t have a lot of “me time,” but I don’t need much - really just enough time to exercise.

I was in the same boat for a while but am now remarried. I would only go on dates if I talked to the person first for a while on the phone and made sure it was someone worth getting a babysitter for. That approach worked as I found someone I married by doing so!
I also recommend getting more help if you can. You need a break and can’t be at everything for work and your children. I tried that for a while - It doesn’t work. Now I pick what’s important to me and them, and the rest slides. Good luck though - none of this is easy!!!

Yes, online. We met almost 7 years ago and I flat out refused to meet up in person until we chatted first via the app, then messaging then the phone for a few weeks.

This is me. We’re 50-50 so I work after they go to bed when I have them and late nights/weekends to make up the time otherwise. I won’t sacrifice quality time when I have them so this works best for me.

I just started dating someone (we've only had a few dates, taking it slow, haven't even kissed). Today is their birthday. Will be another week before we see each other again as both have kid responsibilities. Gift or no gift? I know where they work to have flowers sent, but is this necessary at this point (also, is it creepy at this stage)? I'm interested in the person, but obviously too soon to know whether I would want to date exclusively

Hi does anyone know if we are entitled to bank holidays on top of parental leave?

Wife got lawyer, and I am interviewing lawyers starting tomorrow. I am primary breadwinner (95%), but she is citing at-fault divorce. I have been having substance abuse issues and anger issues (no physical violence). Need help. She is okay about negotiating outside lawyers. Can anyone recommend a divorce lawyer in ATL area? Any pointers? No kids. Married for 3 years. I paid her student loans and put her through school.

I’m looking for advice on a project on presidents that I do with my kids every year. See comment below for more info (not enough space here to type).

Forgive me father, for I have sinned😔: I got thirsty and reached out to an old colleague who I had chemistry with on LinkedIn. She said she was excited to grab coffee with me though so…

Folks,
Have been married for 15 years and have a kid of 11 years. My spouse is falsely accusing me of domestic abuse and trying to get separated. We have had incompatibility even before marriage on various issues but it was an arranged marriage, we tried to work it out and stay together. Her side is asking her to move on. She has taken my kids passport and kept it with her. What are the options I have to defend myself?

Mother in law constant interference has caused friction between me and my partner. She is over possessive about him to the extent how he should be fed , what he should be fed, what he should think and how he should perceive things, when he shd be happy and when he shd feel hurt everything is communicated to him in a subtle way. He gets influenced too.

She had come here for 6 months stay to help me post my delivery with our baby . But hardly she did. I don't know how to improve my partner

Any parents who are still on the safe side with Covid? We have a 1 year old and being safe and staying mostly home is really getting to me. Most of our friends have kids who are able to mask up or are vaccinated and it’s getting quite isolating. Especially now mask mandates are being lifted feeling like we can’t go anywhere without risking our kid.

I had someone from school flame and unfriend me on Facebook because I said jobs are the best way to help someone go from low income to self-sufficient. And this was after I had her child in school and was told I was a great teacher.
