Out school is mostly remote, but we do have about 60 students on campus every day. We have 2 administrators, 1 hired this year! The head principal leaves before most teachers, doesn’t seem to have enough to do. He’s constantly tracking grades AND the district installed a program that allows admin to view our screens anytime they want. He put multiple monitors in his office so he wan “watch” us. We have no sports. Few discipline issues. Not sure why we have 2 admin.

Poor thing. All dressed up with nothing important to do. I will be in prayer for him and your school community.

I’ve met these types before. This administrator took on the “Ill find something broken and fix it” approach to leadership. Worst kind of person to work under. I’d get the Union on him super quick and start making him a pariah in the eyes or HR. Seriously: admin like that can kill a good teachers career.

Wow it’s like Big Brother watching you. How uncomfortable. Can you subtly suggest some ideas? Esp. to the new one? Like “oh we used to have this fabulous program when we were in person, wouldn’t it be cool to make a slide show of...?” “Wow, you are really good at video editing, would you have time to do...?” “I saw this cool post about using padlet, we could put that in our newsletter.” “Wouldn’t it be neat to have a contest about .....I heard this other school was doing...” I don’t know if you have that type of relationship, but maybe they need some fresh ideas? Anything but watching you on monitors! That’s creepy.

are the admins helpful and/or supportive?

They don’t get it, because nothing has changed for them. They are still in their offices, on their computers, and trying to justify their positions by looking for more work to pile on us.

I started my career with my firm in my hometown (~60k population). After a few years I decided I wanted to go to a larger city (260k population) and thought my life world change as I was a driven single 26 year old. I got two promotions, but personally I don’t feel like I have any ties to the city and had better luck dating but didn’t find the one yet. Now since WFH started I’ve been mostly living in my hometown and am thinking about moving back. Cont…

We are currently building the plan for the hybrid model we will follow mid October. (No specific date yet.) We have committed to an A/B model with groups attending MT and Th/F in person, working remotely the other three days. If you have an AB model do you deliver the same content to your students each day, regardless of them being remote or in person? Or is the lesson cycle one that begins on the first day you teach in person for each group? This second model seems complicated.

I’m all about that work from home life. However it is insulting and unprofessional when a colleague who is in the office blows off a scheduled meeting with you when you are virtual as they bumped into another colleague in the office. Anyone else noticing issues like this now that we are in this hybrid mode. How do you address it?

Back in the day, I did my own PR, sales & marketing for whatever business idea I was running with at the time. What’s a good remote sales opportunity I can do anywhere in the world that won’t be painful or too high touch? Where I can use my social & business skills (markets, law, cloud, publishing, media, logistics, algos, social media, books, ebooks, design, podcasting, marketing, press release writing, voiceover, journalism) to earn a few extra shillings?
