Hi Fishes,
I recently got an offer for Cyber security advisory at PwC India . They gave a 20% hike on the current amount. Thing is that l, the technical interview told me that it is not a software/coding type of position and asked me multiple times if I was interested to do that. Is that a red flag?

^ You are somebody. I love you.
OP- her gain is your gain too as her supportive contact. Reach out for congratulatory coffee or drinks and let her know you are on the market. She may be looking to add to her team or know someone else that is and can refer you to the role. Beneficial to all involved because the referral bonus!
Good idea!
I went to the same ad classes with someone who blew up and got hugely (advertising) famous. I’m still a nobody producing nothing.
We all went to school with and know people who have blown up. There’s always going to be someone better. But they’re only better at a certain point in time. They’re could be a day and it could be sooner than you think when they will be jealous of you. We are all on the hero’s journey. It’s a winding and twisting path.
We're all on our own tracks and it's not healthy or helpful to compare, I know. But I've been out of work a few months and that one hurts.
You just had to go there, huh 👆🏽
I have similar stories. It’s hard not to compare but you can’t or else it will drive you crazy.
It’s hard to make that leap. You really gotta go above the call and also show leadership skills. If you’ve got a good relationship with your cd sit down with them and talk. Say your goal is to become an acd. Ask them what you need to do to get it. Then you’ll be on your way.
Absolutely agree. Unfortunately I was having these discussions and was offered a promotion that three months later turned into a layoff at the hands of a new parent company. 🤷🏻♂️
My ex writer is now global creative director for a beer brand. And most of me portfolio school classmates are acd or beyond. I know the feeling
You have got to learn to love your life and not theirs. I didn’t go to a glorified Ad School but still graduated with some people who ended up working at Apple, CP+B, Sapient, and so forth. It bums me to know I have the talent but continue to get passed up by juniors who are made immediate AD and Senior AD after one year. I just enjoy where I’m at in the moment and try to be my best possible self until my next venture comes along.
It’s tough too with this current climate. I am sure if you saw something in her as a junior, she was smart then and even better now, but there are too many cases of hiring just to say “Look at us. Our creative leadership is 63.5% female."
Just my perspective.
What makes you a good creative might not make you a good CD or somethin in a leadership role. I know creatives that could craaank good ideas but can’t manage a damn thing and lack a leaders backbone, that will hurt them. There are others who aren’t the best or brightest or have had the Cannes winning ideas, but they know how to play the game and manage talent and get the most out of teams. THOSE people will go the farthest.
Are you in Mccann? I know the team who came up with fearless girl were promoted to ACD in no time.
Tbh, if you get promoted too fast, you either burn out or price out. You’re playing the long game. If you’re as young as me, you have like 40 more years until retirement. Don’t sweat it.
