Overheard a conversation where my project manager (SM) actually dismissed (openly laughed at) the systemic and structural racism of black and brown ppl. This is why inclusion & diversity is a joke.

they don't affect the lives of anyone around him bc I'm pretty sure he treats everyone equally or otherwise there's be cause to fire him for violating the civil rights act. It doesn't deny you anything. At all. I'm mad bc I'm tired of you social justice warriors and PC police being so super sensitive to anything that might remotely be different than your own beliefs that you're throwing temper tantrums and threatening people's livelihood by reporting them for having a different opinion. How about instead of doing that you have a conversation with him and try to educate him on this issue?

like

Wow! Lots going on here. People are always going to have their opinions whether about blacks vs whites, men vs women, young vs old or just some pain in the ass you are working with or for that is different from you or competing with you. We can't sue everyone or pick a fight with them. I guess you have to decide which battles you want to fight at work. I don't have that particular battle but have had to make some choices on what I will put up with at work. Maybe I am naive but I don't think HR can fix everything. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

OH MY GOD STOP BEING SUCH TWATS ABOUT THIS. people are allowed to have opinions of their own, whether you agree with them or not. You gonna report everyone you disagree with? Let the Soviet Union, the SS, North Korea, and many others show you some tips on how to do it

The self righteousness on FB today is deafening.

Sometimes I post on here thinking the consultants "out there" are different than the consultants "in here", forgetting it's all the same audience but people are a bit more ballsy because they can hide behind an app. My bad for even trying to start a "meaningful dialogue". The situation I described as well as the tone (and fact) deaf responses in here further affirm that no one really cares about minorities. All I'm saying is don't have inclusion and diversity when it's all clearly bullshit.

like

this is why diversity and inclusion is necessary. prove to others that stereotypes are wrong 💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿

like

Not cool. You gonna report this?

like

Good luck reporting "I overheard my manager say.....". Not saying it's right, but you're not gonna get anywhere by reporting it.

like

I'm racist for calling out racism. Classic.

like

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH oh my god OP fuck. You're even more hopeless than I thought. Ever heard of a Supreme Court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes? "I may disagree with what you're saying but I'll defend your right to say it to death." I'll go back to enjoying my night as a mega super racist. Make sure to rest up, I'm sure being butthurt by literally everything must be tiring

like

OP you're the racist one

like

@P1, 2 and everyone else on here cosigning the bullshit: please read this from MLK - the guy many of you love to quote back and blacks when they speak up and respond to oppression in ways you disagree with.

Letter from Birmingham Jail (ext)

By Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., 16 April 1963

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

A2 the fact that you see this as an opportunity to profit is absolutely sickening.

Or you could accept that it is what it is, stack your paper like A2 advised, and realize some of the same people smiling in your face every day harbor those beliefs. Don't let it get to you. Use it to propel yourself forward.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to score a million and leave/retire. I stopped trying to explain racism and bias to folks a long time ago. It's blatant, anyone who does. It see has no interest in seeing it. Make sure that they face consequences and keep moving forward.

like

A2 using the victim narrative. Make sure you get that settlement and retire early cause you deserved it!

like

@E2 yeah that's what I'm going to do - but I'm not going to be silent. What I'm seeing from the all inclusive PwC consultants on here is (1) reporting isn't a solution and (2) talking about with people isn't a solution since they really have a different "belief" . So really they just want black people to shut the fuck up and be glad they're allowed to have a job.

like

I made no critique about you getting upset. Just saying your approach is wrong and when others disagree you can rise above or express your distain like a grown up. You're a senior consultant? Make your points logically and without coming off as an upset toddler. Though I agree with some of what you've said it hard to look past your responses to others telling them to f themselves or gtfo. If you want to start sighting MLK then take from him and be an example. Pretty sure he was able to make points without reducing himself to attacks on others.

Well said A3.

I'm a consultant at a boutique firm that focuses on non-dilutive funding and project management for small businesses. I don't see myself doing this for long, as it's basically very heavily focused on grant preparation. My salary is also fairly low (~80k base in Raleigh). I have a PhD and postdoc experience, and wanting to move out. How can I best represent my experience to other employers? I'm afraid that I'll only be looked at as a grant writer and nothing more.
