Overheard one of our summers in the HALLWAY bad mouthing the firm to another summer and telling them how they were just here for a paycheck and weren’t going to accept our offer. Like how stupid do you have to be to tell someone that in a public place in the office. Not going to do anything with it since the summer seems toxic but jeez

If the summer seems toxic you might want to mention the comment to someone lest that summer get an offer and not find any other options so they decide to accept...

Holy shit. Do you think there might be other people who are just doing their jobs for the money too?

Maybe the summer associate doesn’t care since he hates the firm. Good for them!

like

Meh, I was there for the paycheck during my summer. I had no intention of accepting my offer, but they ended up getting me!

Happens to everyone. Which is why this associate should out the summer to recruiting. So summers stop pulling this crap. You’re getting paid like $4K a week to eat at Nobu. Don’t act like you’re tough sh*t.

Plot twist: 7 seven years later, the summer becomes a shareholder in the firm

funnylike

Unlikely. Unless this firm is also toxic and breeds narcissists, it would be fitting.

Why wouldn’t you tell the coordinator of the summer program? Genuine question. Summer sounds like a rotten, entitled egg.

like

I would just tell recruiting. They’re not going to exactly look at your hours and be like “hmm, OP was slow the past few months, let’s hire Summer to replace OP”

like

Seriously, would tell a partner or recruiting person. Even if the person is decent otherwise, that degree of shitty judgment implies all kinds of other problems.

Welcome to America! Where you can only be passive aggressive and god forbid if you speak your mind. Land of the free huh?

A9, I hear you on that. If this summer is good with the consequences (which might include the summer ending early, and damage to reputation, or maybe a legendary reputation in some ways), great. I was just responding to the comment here re “land of the free” and all that.

I don't get that. Who *wouldn't* want a BL offer? I'm over here just hoping and praying that I get one.

Feeling a little down. Started at big law about 7 months ago. Everything was going so great, basically perfect. I was on a roll. But the last month has been full of hiccups. Nothing super major but like messing up citations, told one shareholder I was leaving early and another stopped by office looking for me and made a deal about it. Had to tell senior associate no to a couple assignments because I am at capacity. I guess I should have known perfect wouldn’t last for ever but 1/2
