Parent 🐠 Me and my wife both work and she'll have to go back after 3 months of leave. Feels too early to put a 3 month old in daycare. Any advise from parents here?

Since you asked, if she’s not making 6 figures she should stay home. I stayed home for 9 years and highly recommend it. The early years are irreplaceable.

Lots of 3 month olds go to daycare and thrive. And there are lots of options... au pair, working two different shifts, in home day care, institutional day care. It's not just about the money. Does either parent want to stay at home? There is a real cost to that parents career. My husband and I raised 6 kids... some in day care some not... never handed them over to a "stranger" ....most parents do a through vetting of their daycare provider. Love my kids...love my career and I do not believe my kids suffered in anyway by my choices....

My daughter went to daycare at 3 months. I would adjust my schedule so she didn’t spend more than 35 hours a week in daycare. She is now a thriving young teen who is at the top of her class. FYI I am the advisor and my husband is a pilot. When I was with her I was fully present and appreciated the experience. It all depends upon you, your situation, your family, and your child. There is no ‘blanket advice”.

Agreed that there is no “blanket advice”. Do what’s best for your family. For us, the loss of income when my wife stayed home was scary, but my wife still thanks me to this day that she had the option to stay home. Those early years with the kids are great...you will never get those back.

Would she even want to stay home? Have you asked that? Some of the most unhappy, overwhelmed women I know were expected to stay home bc their earnings didn’t seem substantial enough or their husband just felt it was the right thing to do. There’s a lot to be said for adult interaction and pride in supporting your family (even if on a supplementary level).

What does your wife do? I take nearly two days off a week to spend time with my daughter and help my wife be able to work. My production and performance are down - but I’m still meeting or exceeding and I get to spend time with y little girl. She’s 2.5 years old and I plan to do this with all of my kids until they’re in kindergarten

Actually her earnings are irrelevant .

Nanny.

Nanny is a good option. But if not, can your parents and/or your wife’s parents help out? And is flex work arrangement a possibility for both you and your wife?

Can the grandparents babysit? It’s better to have a relative involved than have your kid raised by a stranger

So, what if your kid is in a 6 person Montessori class with no interaction outside of their “pod”, serious disinfection and prevention practices and all the other parents are super socially conscious and aware. 2 teachers per classroom and no infections during summer school on campus. Yay or nay?

Ladies, looking for outfit ideas that 'hide' the bump. Currently 18 weeks pregnant, and am waiting to break the news to the team after the 20 week scan. The darn Christmas party is before that. Can you recommend the style of outfit that I can wear to hide the bump, so it can pass off as 'fat', thus avoiding any suspicious glances? Thanks so much!

For those who started remote - how did you tell your team your pregnant? I've been working at this company for 7 months now and am also 7 months pregnant (basically found out I was pregnant when I accepted the job offer...been a crazy year to say the least). I've been switched around departments a couple of times so have really only been working with the team I'm on now for a couple of months. Feels weird to announce on our daily stand up since I usually stay on mute for those. Any advice?

For example - How am I going to know what to pay for our child’s education in the future etc?
