Parental Leave - what is your firm’s policy and how is leave allocated (primary v secondary caretaker, everyone gets x weeks and birthing parents get x+6-8, etc)?

If you’re planning soon - I recommend reading the policy carefully. I convinced my firm to change our policy to allow me to switch from “secondary caretaker” when my daughter was born (and my wife stays home) to “Primary caretaker” when my wife heads back to work. The end result was 4 weeks paid leave at birth; 14 weeks paid leave forthcoming early 2020.

It’s both a legal (title 7) and business (keeping up with rivals) issue.

I’m not 100% sure about my firm’s policy since I’m not yet planning on taking advantage of it, but generally it’s 16 weeks. Some people use paid vacation (4 weeks) to extend this period.

like

16 weeks as well but I have seen some people start to work part time 12 weeks in.

8 weeks, sheesh

18 weeks primary, 6 weeks secondary

Im in house, we get ten weeks paid

All parents get 12 weeks paid.

Do you all feel that the Health Insurance choice is actually all the same? The coverage is absolutely copy and paste for Bronze to Platinum and the deductible/copay is very similar.
I just don’t understand why we have the illusion of “choice” if the offer is the same and it is really bad (in our case).
Going from $61 per paycheck for 2.5k deductible 75% copay to $500+ per paycheck with 500 deductible 85% copay.
Other firms have better health insurance?

A long post: seeking some perspective. My husband of 2 years that I’ve been in a relationship with for more than 8 years just woke up one day and told me that he’s unhappy in our relationship. I’m devastated because he’s never expressed anything like this in the 8 years. He’s been super supportive and loving, even when we were in a long distance relationship. He supported my career and dreams and this just doesn’t make sense. We have gotten a counselor but things aren’t getting better. Comment>
