We adopted, I’m a guy, and got 16 weeks. It was amazing. Whenever I tell anyone about it their jaw drops.
Slalom's parental leave sucks buttholes. For the money they're making, they really could make that better. I'm so happy for all of you who get a reasonable leave, especially non-birthing parents -- that is hugely inspiring and makes my heart happy.
It's so annoying how companies act as if the non-birthing parent's life isn't changing as dramatically... One week is a slap in the face. Assuming a traditional relationship (biological parents) for this, the mother has had 9 months of life changing and bonding with this child, while the father has had mostly the same life up until birth - then, all of the sudden, BAM, monster life change all at once. Giving a new father 1 week is only promoting them to become the stereotypical non-present, distant "provider" father that you see on TV, as it doesn't give him even close to appropriate time to comprehend ANY of the myriad of feelings that just hit him like a meteor - let alone attempt to deal with them.
I get it's US culture, but our companies are big enough and (should be) forward thinking enough to be better than that, and help promote their employees starting a healthy, loving, family - so they can come back to work afterwards far more clear headed with a greater sense of purpose than they've ever experienced. I hope leaders at Slalom read this, because they need to step up.
16 weeks for maternity and paternity
16 weeks for parental leave (maternity or paternity), including adoptions. No side-eye from teams when taken. Can also use this benefit to provide care to a sick relative with 100% salary while you're away.
16 like said above, but be prepared to get judged for taking it all if you are a guy.
Props to D, BCG’s 16/8 is decent but I wish they would extend paternity to 16 too to demonstrate valuing both parents as equal parents and not worsen the tenure/experience gap between genders
Accenture also guarantees local for the first year, but if you decide to travel they’ll pay to overnight milk home to baby. And you get a certain amount (80 hours/year I think) of subsidized backup care. They’ve done a lot in the past few years to make things better for parents
Uncle D rocks
16 weeks paternity and maternity. However, if you are giving birth, you get 6-8 weeks short term disability at 100% pay. That equals about 6 months of maternity leave
Thank you for starting this thread. Slalom’s parental leave policy is painful. I love to see these generous and equal leave policies for primary and non primary caregiver across the industry. Step it up Slalom!
Slalom's pay also sucks for the money they're making. Pay and benefits suck all around. I gave my notice to go back to Accenture and got $40K raise in base pay to where I should have been all along for the work I'm doing.
Varies by geo, mine is moving to 18 weeks
Swedish 🐠 gets the legal 480 days parental leave, even in consulting
SC3 - You make a damn good point
16 weeks if primary (can be both if staggered); 2 or 4 for non primary (can’t remember which number )
@OP: curious, what do you plan to do with this information? We need to present the facts and fight for parity!!!
PwC gives 2-4 weeks STD (depends on your state) which you take prior to your due date. Then, you get STD of 6-8 weeks (depending on vaginal or csection). Then you get 6 weeks maternity leave. Then you can take use your PTO . You can also go on unpaid after that and apply for PML benefits through the state (at least in CA) which gives you partial salary. In all, you can take 26 weeks off with job protection. I did this twice and was only unpaid for 3-5 days in all of 6 months. You get paired with a lactation consultant, nurse who checks in on you during the pregnancy, a mom-buddy when you’re back, and free breast milk shipping. We also get $1000 each year reimburseable for emergency back up child care you need in order to work. This policy applies whether you give birth or adopt. Fathers get 6 weeks if they take it all at once or 3 if they spread it over a year (I think).
8 if giving birth + 8 for any parent.
12 weeks maternity leave. My practice (prob not company wide) also allows some moms to work part time for a few weeks after their 12 weeks to ease the transition back
6 weeks for paternity. No clue about maternity
