I gave birth in early February and since we originally went to lockdown we have limited visits to just my in-laws who have been carefully quarantining. My parents are further away and it would require multiple flights or a multi day drive so we are optimistic about maybe seeing them at Thanksgiving. Fortunately my parents saw the baby right when he was born. I did one socially distanced visit with a friend from childbirth class where we sat outside, over six feet apart, with masks and held our babies. Aside from that, the baby has only seen the pediatrician.

We’re trying to be realistic about COVID & how contagious it is/how it is spread. We’ve been very careful about not exposing ourselves unnecessarily, and plan to continue in the same manner. Having family be part of our newborn’s life is a necessity for us. We will he taking precautions, such as making everyone wear masks, wash their hands, and have them hold her only while we’re all outside. Realistically, COVID isn’t going away any time soon, and there’s no evidence that it’s any worse for newborns than any other flu/cold/etc. In pre-COVID times, no one would have batted an eyelash at having family visit a newborn, you would just have asked them to not come if they’re sick, and wash their hands.

You should really add that context to your post

I had my baby in May. Similar to M1, we waited until 2 months to make one visit to my parents (staying 2 weeks with them). We now have returned to home in NYC and my SIL wants to meet the baby. Since testing is widely available here now, we are asking her to get tested and remain completely quarantined until the results come in. (We will be doing the same for her safety). If we all test negative, she can come over and meet him.

I’d take the advice of your pediatrician on this. May vary based on where you are in the country. I’ve heard everything from required quarantine + masks to just zero visiting in the first 3 months.

Got cha now. And totally agree.

I had a child in April, and after her two month vaccination I engaged with my parents weekly. Prior to that I did not. My mum helped by watching her during the day whilst my husband ran errands and I could work. We would have a family dinner together at night with my mum and dad. We have a full time nanny now, and looking back (and even during) I treasured that time period. We visit my parents on the weekends now for a day, and my daughter has really grown close with them, and it’s been a really special time. I had the go-ahead from my ped before we did any of this, so now I will title drop since it seems that’s what matters to some on this post: my mum is an epidemiologist and my dad is an interventional cardiologist. Mum retired last year and dad still works full time; both are over 65 so the concern regarding health and safety is more on how we or she will negatively impact them as opposed to the opposite.

We have been ok with friends and family interacting with baby as long as they follow safety protocols I.e mask on at all times, wash and sanitize hands, no kissing/ close cuddling unless they quarantine (for visiting family). Needless to say, our friends and family are also being very careful in their own lives - and they always inform us where they’ve been the past 7 days prior to coming over, so we can jointly decide if they should visit.

I’ve been working 12 hours a day minimum since I was 11 years old .. so now 12 hour days feel like play for me. Also put me infront of a screen for 24 hours and I won’t move until I need to go to sleep . I have been like that since I was a kid so now it’s in my blood. I never felt I was working. I’m always curious and my mind goes 1000 miles an hour . What about you? Do you feel it’s work and CBF after 8 hours? Or you feel it’s your hood and you can’t have enough of it?
