Must be asian (am Asian too lol)
Racist creep. I am Latina just so you know.
A degree is a large investment and gamble. Time x Money. Do it for you, not the parents. In the end, it's your network and quality of life. If you're going to do it, do it right and apply for top schools. Some have flex hours (exec MBAs, night classes). The tech masters will get you the relevant skills, the MBA will get you a larger network and potentially, more $$$.
Parental pressure shoukd be immaterial at your age
They're viewed the same in that Uncle Ernie couldn't care less if you have either 😂
If the pressure comes with $$$, then definitely explore top MBA. That'd be the only masters worth taking off time. If there is no $$& with parental pressure, tell em to F off.
I know a lot of Big 4 who did part-time/evening or 1 year programs as well as one gal who parlayed the Evening MBA at Emory into spot at Bain, so part time can be very lucrative.
Get them to pay for it
Then don't complain about the pressure
C1 you really made me laugh. What do they know about parental pressure
Doing online at IU, cant afford to not make money
Also for tech consultants who want to stay in tech: views on getting an MBA vs masters in tech?
Do it for you. Weigh quant masters, since in Finance, everything is moving towards Computer Science. Try for a top 10 MBA. Part-time will not get you into MBB.
OP what do u like doing? Master and MBA both have pros and cons. It all depends on what you will enjoy doing. I did MIS which was something in between and I thought it was the best decision I ever took (I have taken a lot of bad decisions so maybe hence this shines out 😆)
Concur with others - don't do it for your parents. It also totally depends on the program and what you plan to use it for in your career; obviously the Exec MBA from Wharton is not on the same planet as an MBA from DeVry. If you don't have a clear plan on how the degree will enhance your career, it's likely not worth it.
I don't think I've had a conversation in the past 2 years with my mom that didn't land at least once on "if you would just stop playing around and get your PhD already"... Like I don't work/didn't get a mechanical engineering bachelor's 😂
I just blow her off-- our relationship got better when I was less willing to roll over. Your parents have to make that transition from manager to consultant, and it's hard for them. Help them. Depending on how cool your parents are, just be honest about not being able to afford it.
I'm also a child of (African) immigrants, my parents and my sister all have two degrees so clearly I'm slacking 😂😂😂
C2. How's that going for you?
Start in August, I'll let you know
