I have a PT nanny, I don’t pay her hourly just a flat rate daily. But no I don’t pay her due to weather and etc. Prior to her starting I gave her a contract basically saying there is no paid days if she doesn’t work and there is no PTO accrual. The last storm I felt bad, but hey with this weather I’m not adding that extra expense. If she got covid i would definitely pay her.
We pay our part time babysitter high-ish hourly rate but no PTO, sick pay etc. For our full time nanny we pay about 20% less hourly but give vacation, sick leave, holidays, paid her for 7 weeks off at beginning of pandemic, etc
If my standing babysitter couldn’t come due to weather I would not pay (but if it was due to weather I probably wouldn’t be going out so wouldn’t need her). In terms of sick days, I do 5 sick days, and my babysitter has only ever used one and was v. grateful to have been paid.
I’m not in the situation, but as a mother, I’d want to pay for sick days (maybe 5 a year?) so my sitter would stay home if they were sick rather than possibly get my child or me sick because she wants the money.
I wouldn’t pay for weather, though.
Yes, we value her time too much to not pay her and have her go to another family. It’s common practice honestly, if you had your child in daycare you pay regardless if they are there or not. Maybe you might get 1 week vacation at the daycare. Unfortunately part of the cost of having kids imo!
Yes, this! If I want to keep a regular babysitter I pay their standing hours regardless to “keep the slot”. Well worth it to not have the pain of coordinating schedules and availability of a revolving door of casual babysitters.
