I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

Hi guys,
I am currently on notice period and my LWD is Sep 2, 2022. Today, I got an offer from state street mentioning my joining date as Sep 12, 2022 even though I already told HR that I would like to join from Sep 5 itself. How can I convince HR to prepone my joining date to Sep 5, 2022. I don't want to lose my one week salary guys. Pls suggest. State Street

Tell him what you just said
Just say sorry that’s what it took to get the good product out the door. They can easily cut it so don’t sweat it. If they keep doing this too you consider not working with them.

Say that.
I think a lot of times these questions come across as personal attacks but they really aren’t. You (as the person doing the work) know better than the partner what went into a particular task. They’re anticipating the client may ask about or push back on that time entry (or on the overall bill), so they’re asking you for the justification so they know what to say and so they can decide whether they think the firm should stick to its guns and bill it or write it off.

Explain the situation and that the scope of work was more intensive than a usual purchase agreement due to OC’s incessant nitpicking and turning of more redlines than usual for a transaction of this type in your experience which is a variable that changed the time calculations and that you billed for actual billable and active time spent on this file. That’s what I say when asked. Others may have varying opinions
As in house counsel, as long as you can explain like you did, I’m usually ok with it. Most of us were in biglaw so we get that seemingly simple things can sometimes take a long time.

You could break it all out for him
Just as you did. You have to account for your time. They have to account for the client.
Leave him on read.
“Sorry I made you more money”
To hopefully lessen these emails, your time entries should be as detailed as possible. Sometimes I include the specific time it took to accomplish each task if my overall time was aggregated (i.e., prepare and send e-mail to partner to clarify strategy (.3); review client’s recommendations and modify as needed (1.7), etc.).

Tell him it took you 10 hours but you only billed 8. Then he’ll say you should bill every minute so let’s change it to 10.
