Partners: Can you recommend the best books you’ve read that helped with the mindset shift when you first became a Partner, or ones that helped you excel as you moved up the ranks within the Partnership? Thanks!

I just kept reading the stuff that I found interesting - some combination of science fiction; history/biography, and certain areas of politics & economics.

Most business books strike me as either pointless or as content that can only be useful when consumed in a structured way (for example, The Pyramid Principle is a fantastic book about business communication, but I would have learned little from just reading it vs. doing so in the context of regularly training & coaching).

I’d much rather read widely and continue to be an interesting person who can bring ideas or analogies from an array of places. That’s helped me succeed way more than any business book has.

Thank you! I hadn’t heard catch 22 described that way before and haven’t read it. Excited to give it a try. Thanks

Agree with Pr1. I don’t have a book I could recommend as life changing or that made me a successful partner. However I think reading a lot and across broader interests than just business is very beneficial for anyone and has definitely helped me. I usually aim for a book a week. Use Bill Gates’ list a lot as well as just bestseller lists.

That said, here are some non-fiction books I’ve enjoyed or found helpful in no particular order:
-Financial Intelligence by Berman Knight Case
-21 lessons for the 21sr century by Harrari
- Happier by Ben-Shahar
-anything Michael Lewis
-anything by Malcolm Gladwell
-the best writing on [science, mathematics, etc] - series of research papers in certain fields
- HBR emotional intelligence series
-Mendeleyev’s Dream by Strathern
-Dream Cities by Graham
-Think Again by Grant

This is a great steer - thank you!

Female partner here - not sure if you are expecting a different list …. but this is what I read in recent times…
1) generations by Strauss,
2) the full Incerto series by taleb,
3) Thing fast slow and now noise by Kahneman
Many more such series by economists philosophy and also a whole bunch of biographies and autobiography (searching for the next one - any recommendations?)
…and I fill in the rest with thriller fiction series latest fad is Robert Galbraith - read all of her books :)

Not a partner and may not be typical suggestions but here’s some good ones, they all have a different theme takeaway about leadership. There’s plenty but here’s some of my favorites.

Shoe dog - Phil knight
The ride of a lifetime - Robert iger
Let my people go surfing - yvon chouinard

Thank you - Hadn’t heard of the Chouninard book - excited to give it a shot!

Would be interested to know if these are female partners recommendations and if not, if there are any female partners who could share their favourites.

Anyone also looking into greentech SPACS?

I've taken small positions (<$500 total) in these pre-LOI SPACs. In order of the size of my positions: BOAC, PDAC, SNPR, SOAC.

BOAC - Very bullish given the experience from Shell Capital, McKinsey and various U.S. utilities

PDAC: Management team has lots of energy and banking experience

SNPR: already had a successful merger with HYLN and purportedly has other candidates waiting.

SOAC: impressive utilities and consulting experience
