I doubt most partners would make it in big tech to the point where they could earn as much as in a big 4 (partners are mostly paid on tenure and less on performance).
I know Im making more than entry level partners - but Im pretty sure in 5-10 years they will overtake me. I just don’t have the ambition to sell and rather remain a well compensated IC rather than a managing a practice.
There are lesser positions that pay as well as what tenured partners would make in FAANG, but a lot more positions that would be the equivalent of a senior consultant/manager that would earn 3-4x as much as big 4.
L7-L8 probably
I'm pretty negative on FAANG for philosophical reasons, but otherwise for this scenario, sure. I've bounced in and out of industry a few times over the course of my career, this wouldn't really be any different.

Ah yes I can understand that portion.
Mid-level I was traveling every week with worse WLB than today’s mid-level, but always enjoyed the work, so probably not, and glad to have made it staying on this path which can sometimes be a gamble. Long term comp is better. Post Covid, this path isn’t nearly as demanding as it used to be for manager levels, at least those on my teams. Travel is no longer weekly and should stay this way for the foreseeable future. Might be different elsewhere.
