Please, please, please do not sacrifice some of your best years toiling away for the slight chance to make partner. If it’s your goal, that’s great. But I promise, when you’re 65, you’re not going to care that you made partner at 30 vs 35
And most people leave voluntarily (especially at more senior levels prior to partner). It’s because this job is demanding and stressful
It took me 15 years in B4 so consider it average. Was it worth it? Yes.
-what I did right: had a very strong sponsor since I was a manager who eventually became my recommending partner. This person went to battle behind closed doors and had the juice. In return I sold, managed, and delivered and kept my end of the bargain (in addition to practice work, etc.).
-what I didn’t do right: jumped around early in career and had to keep rebuilding teams and networks. Didn’t work on professional weaknesses early enough. Confused coaches with mentors with sponsors - there is a difference. Pissed people off along the way I could have simply avoided.
Hope this helps
Thanks a lot P2! Despite that sometimes it’s hard to get mentored and Supported if there isn’t a structure thing in place but I will navigate through in future journeys

No, 8 is about as early as possible out of undergrad
I think the best way to manage similar lifestyle but have a pathway to early partner, is to choose your industry and functional area very very early. Knowledge, relationships all build over every subsequent project.
Having said that, listen to EYP1
It’s a marathon, not a sprint!
You will have no life during that time. And that’s if you make it within that time, if you don’t then how much longer will it take and did you waste those years?
This racket is a game of attrition. The sooner you learn that the better off you’ll be.
Also, get a mentor.
Any tips on this? I feel nervous in reaching out to people that I haven’t worked with before
