Unless you've got very deep experience in a particular industry/vertical, the chances of a partner exiting to a CXO role are quite slim.
I've been in exec roles in industry and consulting and would recommend leaving consulting at the SM levels at the latest unless you don't mind spending potentially multiple years trying to line up a suitable exit.
It all depends. I worked in consulting for almost 25 years, 18 as a partner. Retired to COO role at a $250m private company in a sector (food & beverage) I specialized in. Does not pay as much, but lots of fun, high impact and a nice transition to real retirement in a few years.
