Partners - looking to up my game a bit. How much cold selling do you do? What’s sources do you use for contact details - emails / phones? Thoughts on linked-in sales navigator?

None. Unless you’re in a small firm, I don’t know why you wouldn’t use the network and account relationships your firm already has.

Agree, leverage new social networks, introductions from others in firm, etc. LinkedIn is excellent way to see who is connected to who...even if a little removed

It’s a political question as well. Moved firms and am locked out of previous clients / accounts. Need to rebuild network and existing clients are all “claimed”. Feeling frustrated around the rebuild and looking to move faster. Suggestions?

OP, been there so I hear you. Conference and face to face networking works best.

I work at a new, small firm. We get 10 days of PTO. For family/medical leave, we get 20 days paid and then 20 days unpaid. But policy says we have to take our PTO concurrently with paid family/medical leave. That’s weird, right? It’s like you end up losing paid leave days. It makes sense to do it concurrently with unpaid leave but not paid leave, right?

I’m a mid-level female associate at an Amlaw50 firm. I usually work with 1st or 2nd years. When I give feedback, I try not to be too harsh and to soften the criticism with anecdotes of people (or myself) who made a similar mistake. I discussed this with my husband (he’s in medicine), who was horrified. He told me that, even in his job, women felt the need to “cut themselves down” when they gave feedback, while men just gave the direct feedback without a story of their own mistakes. Cont’d

Hi all, I’m currently a year into a role at a top tier firm. Team and WLB are great but growth prospects are unclear and not a sector of long term interest. My manager hasn’t been able to articulate his medium term vision and how my role fits into that and doesn’t seem concerned that I’m overqualified for the support nature of my role. I’m making it to offer stages for other roles offering me over 30% more than I currently earn and with very strong prospects. Am I being to hasty in wanting out?

Part of a large firm which is fairly hierarchical and am fairly junior in tenure. Feel like I don’t actually like any of my “superiors” and most of them have a very divergent views of what life is (given how much they want to work and how often they prioritize work). I like the work, I’m just tired of being exhausted by internal senior stakeholders and their never ending demands. Is industry the right place to look for some sense of reasonability?
