B4 pay will eventually even out. Unsolicited advice, pick B4, would be better longer term. I exited a bigger firm for a mid-tier / T2 in my area of expertise and less than happy about it. I delivered what I joined the firm for and drove specific personal outcomes, but would not likely do it again. The talent you will have access to, the market you will work in, the engagements you will drive will all limit you from using your potential. Indeed there are specific cases where you join mid-tier and deliver significantly by their standards, not denying that, but quite likely it will erode your own potential in the process.

Go Big 4 if you can. Much easier to move down market in the future if you desire. Big 4 comp should be better over the long run.

Came from a mid tier to a big4. I think it depends on which one, which group, etc. Partner comp and perks are much better at big 4, leadership is much more competent, and yes the caliber of people in general is higher.. but I think my group at the mid tier was just really great to work with, more collaborative, more honest and I haven’t found that with my current group or most of the other partners here at the firm. I’ll say switching firms was much harder than I thought it would be and although I’m making more in comp, I’m less happy.

I think we should swap places. ;) Agree though, my mid-tier teams and colleagues are a lot more open.

Do any of those firms offer a better value proposition in your focus area? If they are similar, suggest B4 as the poster above recommended. Also, independence maybe less of a concern with mid tier firms.

Independence can be a major issue but the likely impact should be easily identifiable. You should definitely do this due diligence - speak to your recruiter. The Big4 have tools to identify independence issues. Beyond this there really isn’t any reason to contemplate mid-tier over big4 if you have the options. D

Another consideration. Quality of life. Pay/perks may be better at Big4 but Tier2 still a very good living and possibly better balance in life. May not be important to you but is something that should be considered….b4 pay comes with b4 expectations/stressors.
